Hillary Clinton vs. the Pentagon

Kos has a nice summary of Hillary Clinton's astonishingly good week. She not only took on the Pentagon (with the cable news channels rooting for her), but also found time to defend Daily Kos from Bill O'Reilly!

When it comes to being able to deal effectively with the Dark Side, no one has more experience than Hillary Clinton. This woman is not going to make Kerry's mistakes.

Her letter to Robert Gates is at TPM, and over at Hillary Is 44, you'll find more about Hillary's continuing smackdown of the Pentagon.

Lilly Ledbetter on Fair Pay and the Unfair Roberts Court (Video)

Lilly Ledbetter describes what the arrogant Roberts Supreme Court did to her and women and minorities everywhere in Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire:

Support the Fair Pay Restoration Act
“The Roberts Court made it more difficult for Americans to recover wages unfairly denied them and much easier for employers to engage in pay discrimination with impunity. Congress must act now to undo the Court’s unjust assault on the individual rights of American workers and the laws passed by Congress to protect them.” -- Ralph G. Neas, President of People For the American Way

The Cheney Doomsday

AXcess News - Washington - A shudder could be felt across Capitol Hill Friday after news came out that President Bush would be having his butt checked out which meant that while Bush was going through the colonoscopy, Vice President Dick Cheney would be in charge of the nation.

A Crack in Team Bush

Emotion on Iraq
By JUDITH WARNER

It was a shock to see Defense Secretary Robert Gates battling tears Wednesday evening as he spoke about Maj. Douglas Zembiec, a Marine and father of a 1-year-old daughter, who was killed in May after requesting a second tour of duty in Iraq. . . Gates seemed, for a moment, to tap into national sentiment in a way that the Bush team has never before done. . .

We’d never seen anything like it in the “Henny Penny” brush-offs of Gates’s predecessor, Donald Rumsfeld. We probably never will discern any inkling of it in Condoleezza Rice’s robotic equanimity. President Bush is known to meet privately with wounded soldiers and families of the fallen and is said, at those times, to become emotional, but little of that softness seeps into his often cocky — and defensive — public demeanor.

It’s hard to imagine much sympathy emanating from a man who admits to no soul-searching on Iraq, who vacationed through the panic and devastation of Hurricane Katrina and who recently shrugged off the issue of health care reform with the line, “I mean, people have access to health care in America. After all, you just go to an emergency room.”

Rice, I read in the recent biography, “Twice as Good,” is so incapable of empathy that . .

Cleavage 2008 -- Washington Post Election Coverage Special

Gawd! I can't deal with this today.

If you've been wanting to read all about Hillary Clinton's cleavage, and I know you have, you'll want to hurry on over to the Washington Post where you'll find it featured on the front page!

That's right, the WaPo has sent out its investigative reporters in order to bring you the important election story of 2007:

Clinton's Neckline Takes Dip

You'll find the full romance version tucked away in Fashion:

There was cleavage on display Wednesday afternoon on C-SPAN2. It belonged to Sen. Hillary Clinton.

She was talking on the Senate floor about the burdensome cost of higher education. She was wearing a rose-colored blazer over a black top. The neckline sat low on her chest and had a subtle V-shape. The cleavage registered after only a quick glance. No scrunch-faced scrutiny was necessary. There wasn't an unseemly amount of cleavage showing, but there it was. Undeniable.

It was startling to see that small acknowledgment of sexuality and femininity peeking out . .

Funny. I'm startled to discover that the Washington Post has a fashion section!

Let me guess, the Washington Post is treating Senator Clinton like a girl because the neocon paper wants to help her win the election. Or maybe the paper just wants to give the boy senators something to talk about. The Washington Post sucks.

Do be sure to check out the neocon paper tomorrow when you will surely be afflicted with a front page story all about Fred Thompson's startling masculinity peeking out from his crotch.

And if not, why not?

More Right-wing Hysteria Over Al Gore

Right-wing Bloggers Spin Funny Fish Tales

Well, did you hear the latest cause for right-wing jubilation? Rightist blogs have been positively salivating over the news.

They have caught Al Gore dining on fine and sumptuous endangered species!

Yep. There’s no such thing as global warming, the earth is flat, and many species are now endangered because Al Gore eats them.

This, my friends, is why it is so hard to win an argument with flat-earthers. It’s just so much more sensible to hold your head, moan, and run for your life! Run back to the reality-based world!

And anyway, since when did right-wingers even believe in a thing called endangered species?

Think Progress:

[C]onservatives across the blogosphere, citing a People magazine article and a poorly-researched Austrailian Daily Telegraph article, smeared Al Gore by claiming that he ate Chilean Sea Bass — a threatened species – at a rehearsal dinner for his daughter’s wedding. Attempting to paint Gore as an environmental hypocrite, BlogsForBush, NewsBusters, and others expressed outrage over the hypocrisy. But, as the Telegraph reports today, “Al Gore’s fish dinner turns out green“:

[T]he fish enjoyed by the Gores were not endangered or illegally caught.

So how many thoughtful and serious scholars will now be forced to spend serious time proving that Al Gore is not secretly devouring all our endangered species? Gawd.

Don't forget to send your letters urging Al Gore to run to: The Office of the Honorable Al Gore, 2100 West End Avenue, Suite 620, Nashville, Tennessee 37203.

Bush Got the 'Right Kind' of Questions in Nashville

Yesterday, Tony Snow suggested that Bush came to Nashville because he would find the "right kind" of people.

Judging from the sugar-sweet cocoa puff questions offered up by Nashville to the Delusional Decider, the "right kind" of people were firmly planted in the Opryland Convention Center by the Republican Party.

Bush's Q & A In Nashville

Executive Order: Total, Absolute, One-Man Rule

The following warning comes from "old-line conservative Paul Craig Roberts -- a former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury under Reagan."

Roberts' warning pretty well sums up why I am for impeaching the power-greedy thugs in Washington. As long as Bush and Cheney are in power, things can and very likely will get much worse.

When Bush exercises this authority [under the new Executive Order] ... there's no check to it. It doesn't have to be ratified by Congress. The people who bear the brunt of these dictatorial police state actions have no recourse to the judiciary. So it really is a form of total, absolute, one-man rule. ... The American people don't really understand the danger that they face."

Roberts believes .. that Cheney and Rove intend to use a renewal of the War on Terror to rally the American people around the Republican Party. "Something's in the works," he said, adding that the Executive Orders need to create a police state are already in place.

"The administration figures themselves and prominent Republican propagandists ... are preparing us for another 9/11 event or series of events," Roberts continued. "Chertoff has predicted them. ... The National Intelligence Estimate is saying that al Qaeda has regrouped. ... You have to count on the fact that if al Qaeda's not going to do it, it's going to be orchestrated. ... The Republicans are praying for another 9/11."

. . . "Americans think their danger is terrorists," said Roberts. "They don't understand the terrorists cannot take away habeas corpus, the Bill of Rights, the Constitution. ... The terrorists are not anything like the threat that we face to the Bill of Rights and the Constitution from our own government in the name of fighting terrorism. Americans just aren't able to perceive that."

Fox News Poll: Democrats Win

Clinton and Obama Beat Every Dark Side Candidate in Fox News Poll

"Clinton and fellow Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama beat every Republican candidate they are tested against in the latest FOX News Poll. . . In seven different head-to-head matchups, the poll shows the Democratic candidate tops the Republican."

Hillary Clinton's Gender Gap: Poll

According to the new New York Times/CBS New Poll, "the vast majority of all voters — more than 80 percent — think it very likely or somewhat likely that Mrs. Clinton will win the Democratic nomination. More than 60 percent think she is likely to win the presidency."
Among all registered voters, 46 percent of women have a favorable view of Mrs. Clinton, while 33 percent have an unfavorable view. The rest are undecided.

The numbers are opposite for men, with 34 percent having a positive view of her and 47 percent holding a negative one.

All the President’s Enablers

Bush Enablers
By PAUL KRUGMAN

In a coordinated public relations offensive, the White House is using reliably
friendly pundits — amazingly, they still exist — to put out the word that President Bush is as upbeat and confident as ever. It might even be true.

What I don’t understand is why we’re supposed to consider Mr. Bush’s continuing confidence a good thing. . .

Now Iraq is a bloody quagmire, Afghanistan is deteriorating and the Bush administration’s own National Intelligence Estimate admits, in effect, that thanks to Mr. Bush’s poor leadership America is losing the struggle with Al Qaeda. Yet Mr. Bush remains confident.

Sorry, but that’s not reassuring; it’s terrifying.

Bush at 19% in Wisconsin

Everyone's been wondering why Bush came to Tennessee. A better question is: Why didn't Bush go to Wisconsin?

Well, since you asked -- In Wisconsin, only 19 percent of the people are asleep. In Wisconsin, a 19 percent approval rating is a "new low" for the pResident of the Republican U.S. Government. And in the previous poll Bush pulled in a whopping 24 percent.

The poll was conducted by a conservative polling firm. Does that mean Bush would fall below 19 percent if liberals conducted the poll?

Pentagon to Hillary: Dissent is Treason

The U.S. Government, servant or ruler of the people? You tell me.

Oh, I forgot. This is not a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, this is a government of, by, and for the Republican Party.

Senator Hillary Clinton, twice-elected representative of the people New York, has been told to STFU by Bush's Pentagon. Bush said it's his government, and I think we know by now that he was dead serious.

Associated Press:

Pentagon Rebukes Clinton on Iraq

July 19,2007 | WASHINGTON -- The Pentagon has issued a stinging rebuke to Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton, arguing that she is boosting enemy propaganda by asking how the U.S. plans to eventually withdraw from Iraq. (emphasis added)

Under Secretary of Defense Eric Edelman wrote a biting reply to questions Clinton raised in May, urging the Pentagon to start planning now for the withdrawal of U.S. troops. . .

"Premature and public discussion of the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq reinforces enemy propaganda that the United States will abandon its allies in Iraq, much as we are perceived to have done in Vietnam, Lebanon and Somalia," Edelman wrote.

He added that "such talk understandably unnerves the very same Iraqi allies we are asking to assume enormous personal risks."

DC Madam Client Sen. Vitter Has Rough Day Back at Work

Senator Vitter had a rough first day back at work. The Republican doesn't want to talk about how many call girls he spent his family values nights with, but reporters chased him down the senatorial hallways anyway.

Politico reports:

At 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) made his post-scandal debut on Capitol Hill.

He emerged at a Commerce subcommittee hearing, took several swigs from a Starbucks cup, asked a question of the witnesses, sat for another 30 minutes as the media multiplied, and then bolted. Literally, he bolted through a maze of offices and popped out a door halfway down the hall.

Vitter was trapped, and he knew it -- or heard it: the reporters with boom mikes and in high heels chasing after him. . .

Back turned to the cameras, Vitter walked down the stairs, out the door and into a white SUV. As he pulled away, reporters quipped that Vitter should be thankful his staff didn't put him in a white Bronco.

Larry Flynt suggests that Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) will soon have some sympathic company. Flynt says he has the sex scandal goods on yet another U.S. Senator.

Records Show - Pro-Choice Lobbyist Fred Thompson is too Senile to be Prez

Update: Good news for conservatives! Thompson did not personally perform the abortions!

Fred Thompson can't recall it, but records show that he is too senile to be president. Depite all the denials and claims of a poor memory, Fred Thompson was indeed paid to lobby on behalf of an abortion rights organization.

The sometimes 'pro-life' and sometimes pro choice Fred Thompson is a Republican, and as we know Republicans find their values inside their wallets.

While working as a pro choice lobbyist, senile Fred Thompson spoke with the president of the abortion rights organization 22 (!) times.

Just imagine all the conversations senile Fred Thompson could forget if he were president!

Billing records show that former Senator Fred Thompson spent nearly 20 hours working as a lobbyist on behalf of a group seeking to ease restrictive federal rules on abortion counseling in the 1990s, even though he recently said he did not recall doing any work for the organization.

The billing records from Arent Fox show that Mr. Thompson, who charged about $250 an hour, spoke 22 times with Judith DeSarno, who was then president of the family planning group. In addition, he lobbied “administration officials” for a total of 3.3 hours, the records show, although they do not specify which officials he met with or what was said.

Oh, Those Billing Records
Records Show That Fred Thompson Campaign Lied About His Work For Pro-Choice Group
SO WILL FRED THOMPSON CLAIM HE'S AS SENILE AS McCAIN-- OR JUST LYING? IT'S OFFICIAL: HE WAS A PRO-CHOICE LOBBYIST

McCain’s Double Feature

End for McCain
by Gail Collins

Is there a less rewarding political task in America today than carrying the president’s water on Iraq? But there was poor John McCain yesterday in the Senate, slogging all through the night and into the morning, beating back the Democrats’ attempt to impose some kind of timetable. . .

Lately, the senator has been dividing his time between the American mission in Iraq and his presidential campaign, and they are going equally well.

Bob Novak Flunked Women's Studies 101

Dumb Conservative White Male Sexist Quote of the Day:

"I hate to say it, but I think the hatred toward George W. Bush is just mad. I listen to, sometimes in the car radio, on talk shows, and the venom that comes out of the mouths of some of these women, particularly, I’m not trying to be sexist, but they’re so vicious toward him. And I don’t think that really contributes. And also, the bloggers, I don’t read the bloggers very much, but it is really, it’s really vicious.”
Vicious, mean, dirty, nasty politics, and it's all mommy's fault!

Just like all conservative men, Bob Novak flunked Women's Studies 101. One of the many conservative reasons for denying women the right to vote (until freakin' 1920!) in this great democracy (sic) was because politics was just too mean and nasty and dirty for the delicate flower of womanhood.

Cause if women had the right to vote, who would wash the freakin' dishes?

It was our fragile diaper-changing femininity that denied us the right to have a say in laying down the rules of this hypercombative 'gotcha' historically elite white male democracy (sic).

Arrogant conservative men just like Novak blocked women's access to citizenship rights in order to 'protect' fragile womanhood from the vicious male sport.

So, now it's all our fault?

Well, no. We're just playing by the existing rules until enough of us venomous feminist women break through the marble ceiling and change the rules. Novak's worst nightmare.

We're sure Novak blames his mommy for his vicious personality too. Poor Bobby Novak, his mommy must have been a bitch!

Hey, W! Bin Laden (Still) Determined to Strike in U.S.

Still Vulnerable
By MAUREEN DOWD

Oh, as it turns out, they’re not on the run.

And, oh yeah, they can fight us here even if we fight them there.

And oh, one more thing, after spending hundreds of billions and losing all those lives in Iraq and Afghanistan, we’re more vulnerable to terrorists than ever.

And, um, you know that Dead-or-Alive stuff? We may be the ones who end up dead.

Squirming White House officials had to confront the fact yesterday that everything President Bush has been spouting the last six years about Al Qaeda being on the run, disrupted and weakened was just guff.
