On Death Certificates for Abortions: Jokster Rep. Stacey Campfield (R) proposes wacko bill that will never pass and entire world sits up and takes notice

But it is freaking amazing how much world-wide attention one little wingnutty yahoo of a legislator can get. As far as I can tell, this jokster of a legislator has never ever gotten a single bill passed. Yet all Stacy X has to do is propose a looney bill, and the whole freakin’ world sits up and takes notice!

And people complain about the media giving wack jobs like Bill Donohue a forum.

Let me say it again. Rep. Stacey Campfield is a joke. Nothing he does or says should be taken seriously. Can you hear me, New York Times? International Herald Tribune, France? Guardian.UK?

Good freakin’ grief people!

The only thing Tennessee's attention-starved joke of a legislator is good at is getting massive amounts of bad press for this state.

Several days ago, I was mucking around the legislature's website and found Campfield's proposal to require death certificates for abortions. I posted the story as the joke that it is. The General thought it was a great joke. And much of the Tennessee blogosphere has since treated it as a joke. But it didn't take long before the national blogosphere and the msm picked up the story and treated it with some serious wide-eyed horror. And, yes, the story serves as yet more 'proof' that Tennessee is a backward state full of uneducated yahoos.

Why doesn’t the state of Tennessee just put Campfield on salary as the state’s Anti-PR man?

Let’s be clear: There is no way in hades that this absurdity of a bill stands a chance of becoming law.

Because:
It would cost the state lots of money.
It would be unconstitutional.
The Tennessee House is controlled by rational Democrats.
The Tennessee House is controlled by pro choice Democrats.
The Tennessee House is controlled by Democrats who view Stacey Campfield as a big joke.

In the view of House Judiciary Chairman Rob Briley (D), Campfield’s death certificate proposal is “'the most preposterous bill I’ve seen' in an eight-year legislative career. 'It is totally inconsistent with everything the law contemplates as it relates to anything close to that subject.'"

Stacey Campfield is a joke -- let’s count the ways:

1. Campfield is known for making stuff up; he can’t tell a fact from a right-wing fantasy

If Stacey Campfield is awake, he is probably spreading false information. He claims that the state already issues “death certificates” for miscarriages. In fact, the state issues "certificates" for late-term miscarriages, no personal data is collected, no one’s privacy is invaded. As many have noted, death certificates are what you get when you have an actual birth certificate! And death certificates are branded with identifying data such as social security numbers.

Campfield also falsely claims that his joke of a bill would result in the collection of needed data, i.e., the number of abortions performed in this state. It's no surprise that Stacey X doesn't know that this data is already collected, and the information is readily available from many sources.

2. Campfield can’t get a bill passed

Campfield is now in his second term, yet I can find no evidence that he has ever gotten a bill of his own passed. He has signed on as co-sponsor to bills which have passed, he has gotten resolutions passed, and that's it!

3. Campfield has the maturity of a 12 year old

Campfield was once kicked out of a political fundraising event for heckling and invading the personal space of the Democratic candidate for governor. That's Stace heckling Phil Bredesen in the photo above. That would be, uhm, Governor Phil Bredesen. (See explanatory note at end.)

4. Campfield is an uneducated yahoo

It’s not clear if Stacey X got his degree on the internet, or if he merely claims he got his degree on the internet. What is clear is that Stace has some embarrassing problems with the language. Stacey Campfield is known in these parts as the legislator who has a well-documented history of being unable to spell or formulate complete thoughts.

5. Campfield is an obnoxious jackass

The last time Campfield received this much media coverage was when the Tennessee Representative opined that the legislature's Democratic Black Caucus was more racist than the KKK because they wouldn't let Stacey’s white Republican ass join the Black Democratic Caucus. The story landed in the Washington Post, and was an especially big hit across the pond where everybody already 'knew' that Tennessee is the land of obnoxious uneducated yahoos.

It was Stacey’s desire to join the Black Caucus, or his desire to be black, that earned him the nickname of Stacey X.

Another one of Stace’s brilliant ideas that will also go nowhere is the proposal to replace the state’s regressive tax on food with a tax on pornography. We’re not sure which state employees would get the unpleasant job of reviewing the taxable pornography here in the Bible Belt, but maybe Stacey X dreams of volunteering.

NARAL Rises Up Against Campfield

Stacey X's death certificates for abortions bill has been the subject of a veritable onslaught of outraged emails.

Some of them are from NARAL:

"Women who live in Tennessee already face an uphill battle when it comes to their reproductive rights. . . It's not enough that women who seek to access reproductive health face significant hurdles; Rep. Campfield believes that their privacy shouldn't matter at all."

"[A]s Rep. Campfield surely knows, death certificates include personal and identifying information- including full name and mailing address - that would become public record."

"Women in Tennessee deserve their constitutionally protected right to privacy when they make their personal reproductive decisions. Please help us defeat this dangerous bill by telling your legislators to oppose HB 982."

White GOP Lawmaker Wants to be Black (Not Santorum!)

State Rep. Stacey Campfield wants to join the Black Caucus.

The ultra rightwing Republican is white (very), and, as his behavior indicates, he seems to suffer from a brain deficit.

The East Tennessee Republican says that when he was told that he could not join the Black Caucus because he is white, he thought, “What? Whoa!”

It’s not clear what part of “Black” the lawmaker doesn’t understand.

Black Caucus Chairman, Rep. Johnny Shaw put it mildly when he said, “Stacey Campfield is a strange guy. That's the best I can say.”

It’s anybody’s guess what goes on in what passes for Campfield’s mind. Perhaps he will soon be asking to join the women’s caucus.

Campfield implies in several media accounts that he might pursue the membership again in the future.

The Republican’s claim that he has actually had a thought in his lifetime is both amusing and debatable. Stacey Campfield (R-Knoxville) is famous in some circles for his difficulties with the complexities of 3rd grade writing skills. When Campfield began blogging a few months back, conservative bloggers were so alarmed by his difficulties with the language that they assisted him in the fine art of spell checking.

Campfield is also famous for insulting his constituents.

Shortly after I started blogging, I wrote about Campfield’s distressingly unprofessional and illiterate correspondence with one of his constituents. This correspondence (and much more) has been extensively documented by college student and writer, Jon Fish. (See Jon's column on the subject here.)

Lest you think I exaggerate, below are a few examples of what passes for public service in the ‘mind’ of Stacey Campfield.

“Finally your opinion that your papers articles will hurt me I encourage you to Wright and motivate all the liberals to come after me I bet the vote totals change very little unfortunately students vote very little so if you can motivate them to vote, even if it is against me ,I encourage you, good luck.”

“. . if you want I could show to work Google it could save you a trip to Hodges and who knows you might even have time left over to get a life”

“Finally if you don't do drugs (you didn't say specifically) good for you neither do I, of course your brain is still mush Stacey”

These strange comments were Campfield’s response to the very articulate and polite letters sent by Fish to his State Representative. If you look at the correspondence between Fish and Campfield, you will see that the wrong man is in public service. The good people of East Tennessee deserve much better. Please join me in urging Jon Fish to challenge Campfield in the next election (scroll down for link).

According to the latest post on Rep. Campfield's blog, Fox News has contacted the Rep. about his desire to be Black: "Fox News has called me for a possible national feature interview on a story that ran today." If Campfield manages to make the national news, it won't be the first time Tennessee has been the laughingstock of the nation.

The Awards for Tennessee's 105th General Assembly are in, and Stacey X is a winner!

Our infamous Rep. Stacey Campfield (of 'death certificates for abortions' and 'the Black Caucus is more racist than the KKK' fame) has received the NOT-coveted Simon & Garfunkel Award from M. Lee Smith's Tennessee Journal (subscription only):

Rep. Stacey Campfield To Join Idiot Caucus!

The Metro Pulse, a Knoxville alt-weekly, does an excellent job of summing up the offensiveness of State Rep. Stacey Campfield. As the editorial says, "Every village has its idiot." They should know cause Campfield is the Republican idiot who represents their village. I've pasted the editorial below.

Campfield is the white Republican lawmaker who made national news when he said the Black Caucus was more racist than the KKK, cuz they wouldn't let the white Republican join the Black organization.

Campfield thinks they are racist, cause if a white man can't join a Black organization, he suffers terribly. The feeling of rejection could ruin his life forever. As Campfield sobs: "Separate but equal didn't work in the 1960s. I don't think it's going to work now. I think they need to remove the discriminatory language from their bylaws." Sniffle, sniffle.

Cuz what every Black organization needs is some white men. It's tradition. Just ask the KKK.

But see this primer for white men.

Some of us liberal fools thought that African-Americans had a hard time in this state, we thought it was shameful that the state has been found guilty of crimes such as channeling all the money into the white universities and leaving Nashville's Historically Black University in abject poverty as recently as the 1990s. Fools that we were, we thought the overwhelmingly white legislature (White Caucus) was to blame for such crimes. Now we see the error of our ways.

How could the Black Caucus dare to keep the white man down?

Campfield explained his utter obsession with the Black Caucus by saying he wanted to see how it spends its money. Now Nashville's major daily newspaper, a.k.a. the Southern Baptist Times, is publishing front page stories all about how the Black Caucus spends its money. Those Black people must be up to no good, cuz wingnut Campfield said so.

Fortunately, we do have some rational newspapers in this state, but it appears that they are mostly way over in East Tennessee, the conservative part of the state. Go figure.

No Moe?
The Knox legislative delegation’s answer to the Stooges

Tennessee is a state with a great many serious practical problems. Public education is underfunded at every level. Air pollution, even in this region proud of its natural environment, is worse than it is in most of the country, including major urban areas. And now we can’t even afford to take care of the least able among our critically ill. Our sales tax is absurdly high; the tax burden on the working poor is bigger than it is in most states. We seem locked in a continuing state of crisis.

And what do representatives from Knox County, the state’s center for higher education, do? One, Rep. Bill Dunn, busies himself with attempts to ban gay marriage—which has never been legal in Tennessee to begin with. Now he’s the House Republicans’ freshly elected leader.

Last month, Rep. Dunn’s colleague from another West Knoxville district may have topped him. Stacey Campfield, a real-estate developer, was elected to represent the 18th District last year. The district takes in some of the more populous parts of West Knoxville, on both sides of I-40. So far he’s best known nationwide as the white kid who insisted he deserved a place on the Black Caucus.

All we need is a Moe, to make it all funny. But even Moe never had a job that tough.

Campfield insists that the Black Caucus should be open to white members. He equated it with the Ku Klux Klan. The Ku Klux Klan is a largely secret organization that has been implicated in the murders of thousands of people, from the 1860s until at least the 1960s, and in efforts to prevent people of different colors to vote or attend the schools of their choice. Campfield has since claimed that his reference to the Klan was a “misunderstanding.”

Campfield might find it much easier to earn a place on the Idiot Caucus. His credentials would not be questioned.

His stupid fraternity prank does reflect a reality among Tennessee’s ethnic majority. Campfield’s statement deserves examination only because it’s a sort of an extreme version of a common notion. It’s a symptom of some simplistic thinking, or something akin to thinking, on the part of many complacent whites.

An acquaintance who actually did have a college education once argued that he thought it was perfectly appropriate for Cherokee Country Club to be all white, as it was for many years, because, he said, there were all-black social clubs in East Knoxville.

It’s not the same thing. The necessity of explaining the fact that it’s not the same thing may make us despair that we’re making any progress as a civilization. But here goes.

Without organizations, many minorities would be forgotten, voted down, kicked aside. If Stacey Campfield lived in Mexico or Pakistan or Indonesia, and we suspect many now wish he did, we believe he might come to understand that there are legitimate reasons for an ethnic minority to congregate, for fellowship, for safety, for addressing the certain problems and challenges they share with each other, but not necessarily with the larger population.

There are never good reasons to form clubs for an ethnic majority. The concerns of ethnic majorities tend to get taken care of without special efforts at organization. We need only to review the roster of those who were saved, and those who weren’t, a month ago in New Orleans.

The Tennessee General Assembly is controlled by an overwhelming majority of white people. It always has been, and since Tennessee has a white majority of 80 percent, it probably always will be. The state has never had a black governor, or a black U.S. senator, even during Reconstruction. If blacks vote for black issues and whites vote for white issues, black issues will never be on the agenda. Without a black caucus organized to remind the majority of problems that the majority is insulated from, the civil rights gains of the last half-century could easily slip back to where conditions were when whites controlled everything, rather than merely almost everything.

The real issues of black citizens—especially racial discrimination, which still exists—might never be addressed.

It’s not all his fault. There are lots of people who do things as dumb as Stacey Campfield does. Every village has its idiot, and Knoxville may have more than its share. Though he does reportedly have a BS in management from Regents College, there are some issues he’s probably never thought much about. There are a lot of people like him.

What’s harder to explain is how he got the job representing an affluent and relatively well-educated part of town. Every time the name Stacey Campfield, the white boy who insisted on his right to join the black caucus, is mentioned on the state or national news, we get to see him identified, “R-Knoxville.” People across the state, and even the nation, may be looking to the voters of the Knoxville’s 18th District and wondering the same thing: What were you thinking?

Confronted by some 100 protesting parents and children, as well as opposition from Republicans, the mean and arrogant Campfield postponed his bill. We're sure Campfield hopes to find a way to make the bill even more harmful so he can continue to read about his ugly arrogant self all over the international media. How did Tennessee sink so low?

Children confront Senator Scrooge Campfield:

Greeting them along the way were "Stacey Campfield's Walk of Shame" signs, then a group of about 40 children and adults singing "Jesus Loves the Little Children" outside the Senate chamber. "It makes me mad because he's taking children's benefits," Aamira said. "People won't have their light bills paid." And before you could say, rightwingers are flat-out insane, the locals descended on the blog of Rep. Campfield's friend with outrageous and bizarre demands for said friend to put up some evidence or shut up. To which Campfield's friend, Terry Frank responded that the blogosphere is just so damn rude! And Brittney Gilbert of Nashville is Talking is just such a "stain."

But Stacey's friend, Terry Frank carries on valiantly, she is a hero, says she:

"Whether my story is believed, appreciated, or even carried forward is irrelevant to me. I had the guts to put it out there and suffer the pathetic commentaries of do-nothings like you."

Meanwhile, rumors are flying among the state's pathetic do-nothings about found documents which prove that Campfield and Frank are in fact auditioning for a spot on the new Fox Daily Show ripoff, The 1/2 Hour News Hour.

And in keeping with the high blogging standards of Rep. Campfield and his friend, Terry Frank, the TGW blog hereby announces that the Tennessee Republican Party plans to offer full funding to Stacey Campfield's friend if she will only run for office on the WMD FOUND!!!! platform.

And if you want proof of our claim, you are so obviously a pathetic do-nothing that we don't even want to talk to you.

Rep. Campfield's Identity Crisis

According to Democratic Rep. JoAnne Favors, Republican Rep. Stacey Campfield may be having an identity crisis. The African-American Democrat suggests that the white Republican has African features.

Campfield is the white Republican who made national news when he compared the State Black Caucus to the KKK. After the Black Caucus told Campfield he could not join the Caucus because he is white, the Republican retorted that the Black Caucus is more racist than the Ku Klux Klan.

According to Rep. JoAnne Favors, treasurer for the Tennessee Black Caucus:

"Stacey Campfield's request to join the Tennessee Black Caucus of State Legislators could be motivated by his instincts. His skin tone and facial features remind me of my mother and some of her family members who are of African and Irish ancestry.

Perhaps he is having an identity crisis."

We've had similar thoughts at this blog. Our first story on Campfield's most recent controversy was entitled: White GOP Lawmaker Wants to be Black .

The venerable Jesus General also noted Campfield's racial confusion.

All 18 members of the Black Caucus are Democrats. If the Republican party would like to infiltrate the Black Caucus, perhaps they should consider making an effort to recruit some Black Republicans. But for some reason, duh, Republicans have great difficulty attracting non whites to their party.

With Stacey Campfield on board as the champion anti Black recruiter, it is unlikely that Republicans will attract Black candidates or even voters.

Gee, maybe Campfield is a plant, put there by the Dems in order to discourage Blacks from even thinking about voting Republican.

Once again, Tennessee's most embarrassing lawmaker, Stacey X (R) offers an explanation for why he remains a laughingstock and still can't get a bill passed (or pass English 101).

While Michael Vick announces he will plead guilty to dog fighting charges that involve the execution of dogs "by hanging, electrocution or other brutal means," Rep. Campfield announces that the liberal media is paying too much attention to Vick's crime.

Cause from Stacey's woefully wombless view, the real crimes in America are those committed by baby-killing immigrants and women who have abortions.

Rep. Stacey X's blog:

[D]oes anyone besides me see the hypocrisy of some on the left who go nuts about Michael Vick and the whole dog fighting thing and yet are the same people who don't care about the loss of human life caused by illegal aliens or are the same people who fight for the right to kill unborn babies?

How many dogs have been killed in dog fights versus how many babies have been killed in abortion clinics or by illegal immigrants. I bet dog deaths pale by comparison. But what do we see on TV every day on about every news channel?

Dog fighting is cruel and inhumane. But if Vick could have figured out a way to pit two unborn babies against each other in a fight to the death, maybe we'd outlaw killing children as quickly as we rushed to enhance penalties for crimes involving our pets.

Idiot Tennessee State Senator Stacey Campfield embarrasses Tennessee, and mortifies the nation, on the Piers Anthony show. Watch  Campfield attempt to explain his Boston Bomb pressure cooker joke and then insult his host.  Ugh.

As Bostonians and the rest of the nation continued to heal from the Boston Marathon bombings, "Piers Morgan Live" spoke to state Sen. Stacey Campfield who defended his controversial joke about pressure cookers in the wake of the bombings.The Tennessee Republican lawmaker posted a blog with a picture of an "assault pressure cooker" under the blog caption, "Here comes Feinstein again," likely intended to mock Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s defeated proposals on an assault weapons ban. 

"We're talking about an inanimate object that does nothing by itself," said Campfield comparing a firearm to a pressure cooker. "It does absolutely nothing by itself just like a pressure cooker does absolutely nothing by itself."

"The joke was really about the left and how they push for gun control on inanimate objects just like pushing for spoon control for obesity, it doesn't do anything."

Tennessee's attention-whore lawmaker is getting some again. Gawker has picked up the crazed Republican lawmaker's blog post that we wrote about a few days ago.

That was the post where Rep. Stacey Campfield (R) proposed that Michael Vick should have held some fetus fights instead of dog fights. Some lawmakers actually pass bills for a living, while Stacey X gets paid by tax-payers for being a certifiable moron.

As they say over at Gawker:

"Fetus deathmatches? Extract and dilate the cash from our wallets for season tickets, please. And put our money on the second-trimester gladiators; everyone knows they fight the dirtiest."

Campfield Praises Rob Briley (D) for Pro Gun Stance

"Why don't we just let you take your gun anywhere you want to?" -- Rep. Rob Briley

You have to worry when your Democratic Representative receives praise from the infamous Stacey X. But it does sound like there is something else going on. Just imagine working with wingnuts like Campfield on a daily basis. Still. . .

In a post titled "Rob Briley I hardly know you," Campfield writes on his blog:

"OK I had to have had one of the biggest shocks I have had in the legislature when I was sitting in Criminal practice sub committee (No that is not where criminals go to practice) I was waiting for my bill to come up when my good friend and office mate Frank Nicley had a bill up that would allow people to carry a handgun in a state park if they have a licence (think wild bear).

What happened next was mind boggling Rep. Rob Briley amended the bill to allow people to carry any where except where not allowed by federal law(as long as they have a licence). . . Where is the Rob Briley we know and hate? I had to applaud I was so in shock. Rob if you keep this up we may have to make you an honorary Republican."

The report from the Knoxville News Sentinel suggests that Briley may have acted out of frustration. Still, this is not good.

In a surprise move, a House panel voted Wednesday to repeal a state law that forbids the carrying of handguns on property and buildings owned by state, county and city governments - including parks and playgrounds. . . Rep. Rob Briley, D-Nashville, promptly proposed an amendment to expand its scope. "We've been piecemealing this thing year after year," Briley said. "Why don't we just let you take your gun anywhere you want to?"

. . . Briley, Sontany and others said afterward that it would allow permit holders to take their guns on most other state, county or city government property - including the Legislative Plaza, where signs are now posted to prohibit weapons except those carried by law enforcement officers.

Briley said in an interview that he and a handful of other legislators in subcommittees have borne the brunt of harsh criticism from some gun owners for opposing past efforts to "nibble away" at restrictions on where handguns can be taken. "This has been on the backs of just a few people," he said. "Now it's time for other people to stand up and say, 'We want these protections in the law' - or not."

Of course, Legislative Plaza is the site of our legislators' offices, and it is right across the street from the Capitol. If this bill becomes law, then the next time Republicans hold an angry brick-throwing protest at the Capitol -- they'll be legally entitled to bring their guns.

Hmmm. That's one way to achieve Rove's dream of a permanent Republican majority.

Stacey Campfield (R-TN) Defends Attack on Poor Kids on Martin Bashir Show (Video)

Nutcase Stacey Campfield is attacking children and their families again. In Tennessee, a family of 3 gets $185 a month from TANF.

The heartless one wants to add yet more stress to poor children and their families by cutting their welfare check - TANF - if children don't get good grades.

Campfield would reduce the monthly welfare benefit of $185 by 30%, if children's grades don't measure up and parents don't travel all over town to attend meetings.

Cause  $185 a month goes so far.  I doubt Stacey can get through a whole day without spending $185. He has no children and no heart.

Stacey Campfield is too pampered and arrogant to understand what the problem is. Martin Bashir exposes the fool's arrogance.

The fool understands nothing.

How Many Cops Does it Take to Handcuff Rep. Campfield?

Apparently it took all of four police officers to restrain and handcuff Rep. Stacey Campfield back in 2002, when he was harassing now Governor Bredesen at a gathering for grown-ups. (See the next photo.)

Campfield was subsequently thrown out of the event, or according to our reliable sources and the photo, Campfield was restrained (handcuffed) and detained by police officers until the event ended (but he was not booked).

Note: The first photo appeared in my inbox over the weekend. Apparently, some people are pissed about Campfield's ludicrous anti-choice bill that would mandate death certificates for abortions.

Who knows what I'll find in my inbox tomorrow.

Somehow I missed it, but Kleinheider published the photo of Campfield being cuffed last summer. But there was no explanation. The second photo has appeared on the TGW blog before, but to my knowledge this is the first time the two damning photos have been published together. If you know otherwise, tell me about it.

Where's the English-Only Bill for Tennessee Legislators?

Okay, so Nashville is well on its way to becoming an English-Only city. But what about our state legislators? Shouldn't they also be required to master the English language?

Stacey Campfield has committed a host of outrageous acts since the day he was somehow transformed into a State Rep., but the man has performed one good act. And he's performed it over and over again.

The recently re-elected State Rep. Campfield (R) has demonstrated via his blog that all those who aspire to the job of lawmaker should at a minimum be able to speak and write the English language.

A 3rd-grade proficiency would be nice.

Aren't there any adult English language courses in East Tennessee?

Exhibit A: Three more to be inedited?

The good news is that if Nashville's English-Only bill passes, it will discourage the likes of Stacey Campfield from ever moving to English-Only Music City USA!
