After all these years, we're still fighting religious bigotry, with a lot of help from our 'leaders.' Clearly aiming to capture the fear and intolerance vote, Tennessee GOP primary gubernatorial candidate Ron Ramsey recently suggested that being Muslim is a cult, or something other than a religion: “
You could even argue whether being a Muslim is actually a religion or is it a nationality, way of life or cult, whatever you want to call it.” (Watch it below, at 4:43 in the video.)
Conservative Tennesseans are currently
outraged about a new mosque being built in Murfreesboro, and Ron Ramsey wants to be the Republican Governor who can best lead us all into a new Age of Fear and Intolerance. When he's not campaigning for the highest office in the state, Ramsey is presumably performing the duties of his day job as Lieutenant Governor / Speaker of the Senate. In other words, even if Ramsey loses, religious bigotry may still win.
