The 'Bill Richardson Is a Clinton Backstabbing Judas' Story is Back (Video)

The 'Bill Richardson is a Clinton-backstabbing Judas' story is back. It's almost like the media is helping James Carville in his mission to make certain that Bill Richardson is forever branded as a Judas.

Despite reports charging that Hillary told backstabber Bill Richardson that Obama can't win, Time's Mark Halperin reports that a Clinton associate says that it was actually Bill Richardson who said that Obama can't win the general.

Presumably Richardson said Obama can't win the general while he was assuring several 'very, very senior' Clinton supporters -- including prominent Clinton fundraisers Elizabeth Bagley, Haim Saban, and Alan Patricof -- that he was going to endorse Hillary Clinton:

On Larry King Live . . James Carville, who branded Richardson "Judas" for what Carville said was a particularly high level of betrayal, named a handful of Clinton fundraisers who say they had similar cheery conversations with Richardson. Richardson also gave former President Bill Clinton the impression that he would ultimately back Hillary Clinton as well as Bill Clinton's top aides. When Bill Clinton called Richardson on hearing the news of his endorsement switch, Richardson refused to return his phone calls.

“He made misrepresentations. He told people he was going to endorse Senator Clinton, that he couldn’t endorse someone else. And at the same time, apparently, he was doing something else, and people are justifiably and understandably furious about this. I have never attacked any other supporter of Senator Obama. Many of them are dear friends of mine. Some of them are some of my best friends. I thought this was an exceptional case that merited special consideration.”

“Mr. Richardson’s endorsement came right around the anniversary of the day when Judas sold out for 30 pieces of silver, so I think the timing is appropriate, if ironic,” Mr. Carville said.
