Congress Will Be In the Feminist Hands of Nancy Pelosi
The nightmare of One Party Rule came crashing down last night as angry voters gave Democrats control of the House, and possibly the Senate, in an election in which 60 percent of the voters said they disapproved of the war in Iraq, and 40 percent said "their vote was a vote against Mr. Bush."
Election Day saw Bush with the lowest approval rating of any president "in a midterm since Harry S. Truman in 1946."
"[F]or the first time in history, a party (the Democrats) did not lose a single Senate, Governor or House seat it was defending."
Republican incumbents lost in every region of the country. Democrats took the "national majority in the House, Senate, Governors, and State Legislatures." CNN projects a Democratic majority of at least 28 seats in the House. Democrats may also control the Senate depending on the outcomes in Virginia and Montana. But Democrats gained enough seats in the Senate - 49 vs. 49 - to make it next to impossible for Bushie to put another rightwinger on the High Court.
The disempowered Decider will hold a press conference today, and he will call Nancy Pelosi to offer congratulations. I'd like to hear that phone call. It was only the day before yesterday when the divisive pResident -- of the rightwing side of the nation -- said that a victory for Democrats is a victory for the terrorists. Reportedly, Bush will "reach out" to Democrats in the press conference. That should be interesting. Obviously, this pResident does not do humility. Expect the Decider to talk about a sudden need for bipartisanship, by which he will mean that Speaker Pelosi should follow the lead of the Decider, just like Laura does.
They don't call him the Bubble Boy for no reason.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi, will be the first woman -- and the first feminist -- in that position. It has been a very long time coming, but the pendulum has finally begun to swing back to the left.
We were drinking champagne at my house last night!
