Burning Crosses, 'Fun With Guns' and 'Catch An Illegal Immigrant Day'

Waves of sick intolerance and hatred spreading across America -- Call it the Republican Party Platform -- or the Bush Legacy.

Nelson Espinoza found this nasty little hate sign and a burning cross in the yard of his home in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

"I'm a little scared. My wife and my brother and law and his wife they are scared. They don't want to stay here," said Nelson Espinoza.

Espinoza has only lived in this house on Murphy Road for two months. But now he and his family are sleeping at his brother's house because this weekend someone burned a cross in his front yard and left a message for him.

"They don't want me here. They say I can live in the United States but I can't live in their neighborhood. I can't be a neighbor here," said Espinoza.

Espinoza is from El Salvador. He has lived in the U.S. for five years. The cross and the signs are not the only reason they are scared to stay in their home. Friday his house was broken into. They also kicked in his door and stole money he was saving to buy a new car.

Meanwhile, Republicans aren't content with nurturing hatred via fiery speeches and punitive laws against immigrants, gays, women, blacks, college students and the poor (who did I forget?). The Dark Side has found new ways to promote all the hatred they can. They've invented cute little games like Catch an Illegal Immigrant Day and Fun with Guns.

In the game of Catch an Illegal Immigrant, a volunteer plays the role of an illegal immigrant who gets to be the prey of vigilante College Republicans. The immigrant hides, the Republicans pursue. For the immigrant, it's almost like being gay. It's not clear exactly what they do with the immigrant once they catch him/her.

In the game of Fun with Guns, Republicans get to shoot "cardboard cut-outs of Democratic leaders such as Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) and Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.)" with BB guns or paintball guns. Again, it's almost like being gay.

Who sits around and dreams this crap up? Ken Mehlman?

And why oh why are all the easy money jobs on the Dark Side?

Just when I was beginning to think the One Party in charge of this country couldn't possibly get any more debased.

There is an excess of hatred in this country and I think we can all look to the divisive hate-mongering One Party in charge of dividing us for the reason why. They don't call it the Dark Side for no reason.
