The Rise of Rachel Maddow: According to The Hollywood Reporter, wth Maddow’s help, MSNBC saw a big boost in both total viewers (913,000) and adults 25-54 (290,000), rising a respective 18 and 20 percent. In 2012, Maddow saw her highest-ever scores in total viewers. And that’s not all! The out anchor kicked off 2012 by being named this year’s recipient of the prestigious John Steinbeck Award, given to public figures who exemplify the late author’s values. Media Bistro reported that she was only the third woman to win the award and the first recipient under 40. Now, Maddow ends the year being nominated for a Grammy in the “Best Spoken Word Album” category, for her audiobook recording of the NY Times bestseller, Drift: The Unmooring Of American Military Power. If she wins, she would be the first cable news anchor to win a Grammy.
