At long last, the question we've long wondered here at TGW moves to the New York Times.

Since the 2008 election, progressive leaders have done little to address the obvious national appetite for female leadership. And despite (or because of) their continuing obsession with Ms. Palin, they have done nothing to stop an anti-choice, pro-abstinence, socialist-bashing Tea Party enthusiast from becoming the 21st century symbol of American women in politics. . .

But the sad truth is that Democrats often prefer their women fulfilling similarly diminutive models for behavior. Consider how Hillary Clinton has been treated, at times, by those in her own party: Democratic leaders never really celebrated Mrs. Clinton’s nation-altering place in history as the first female candidate to get so close to a major party’s presidential nomination. Indeed, she is most appreciated when she plays well with others in the Senate or the State Department; when she behaves like a fierce competitor, she is compared to Glenn Close’s bunny-boiling virago from “Fatal Attraction.” . . .

Imagine a Democrat willing to brag about breaking the glass ceiling at the explosive beginning, not the safe end, of her campaign. A liberal politician taking to Twitter to argue that big broods and a “culture of life” are completely compatible with reproductive freedom. A female candidate on the left who speaks as angrily and forcefully about her rivals’ shortcomings as Sarah Barracuda does about the Pelosis and Obamas of the world.. . . .

Arson Is Latest Sign of Fear & Loathing of Muslims At Tennessee Mosque Site

Yet more scary fear and loathing of Muslims in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The small uptight college town is 35 miles from Nashville:

Ben Goodwin of the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department confirmed to CBS Affiliate WTVF that the fire, which burned construction equipment at the future site of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro, is being ruled as arson.

Special Agent Andy Anderson of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives told CBS News that the fire destroyed one piece of construction equipment and damaged three others. Gas was poured over the equipment to start the fire, Anderson said. . .

"No mosque in Murfreesboro. I don't want it. I don't want them here," Evy Summers said to WTVF. "Go start their own country overseas somewhere. This is a Christian country. It was based on Christianity."

Paul Krugman joins OWL president Donna Wagner; Eleanor Smeal of the Feminist Majority Foundation; Kim Gandy, the former president of the National Organization for Women, Terry O’Neill, the current president of NOW; Martha Burk, the former chair of the National Council of Women's Organizations; Susan Scanlan, the current chair of the NCWO in calling for President Obama to fire Alan Simpson:

At this point, though, Obama is on the spot: he has to fire Simpson, or turn the whole thing into a combination of farce and tragedy — the farce being the nature of the co-chair, the tragedy being that Democrats are so afraid of Republicans that nothing, absolutely nothing, will get them sanctioned.

When you have a commission dedicated to the common good, and the co-chair dismisses Social Security as a “milk cow with 310 million tits,” you either have to get rid of him or admit that you’re completely, um, cowed by the right wing, that IOKIYAR rules completely. . He has to go.

Meanwhile, NOW is asking members and supporters to "send $5 for the organization to send baby bottle nipples to the White House as part of its campaign to oust Simpson."

Where does President Obama find all the sexist frat boys? Move over Larry Summers and Jon Favreau. Here's Alan Simpson, President Obama’s "hand-picked" Co-Chair of the Deficit Commission, otherwise known as the Social Security Death Panel.

This ANGRY old Neanderthal, who delights in referring to older women as "pink panthers," sent a rude and patronizingly sexist email message to Ashley Carson, the executive director of the National Older Women's League (OWL):

"If you have some better suggestions about how to stabilize Social Security instead of just babbling into the vapors, let me know," he writes. "And yes, I've made some plenty smart cracks about people on Social Security who milk it to the last degree. You know 'em too. It's the same with any system in America. We've reached a point now where it's like a milk cow with 310 million tits! Call when you get honest work!"

If Simpson was accused of racism, the man would have been fired yesterday. Racism is a human rights issue; sexism, however, is 'merely a women's issue.' OWL, with the backing of the National Council of Women's Organizations, is calling for Simpson's resignation. Sign the petition, call and email the White House!

California Gay Marriage Remains Banned During Appeal

What a disappointment:

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has just granted an indefinite stay in the Prop 8 case, prohibiting any same-sex marriages from taking place.

The lower court had ruled that Prop 8 is unconstitutional, and ordered same-sex marriages to be allowed in California again by 5 p.m. Wednesday. But a three judge panel of the appeals court just stayed, or delayed his order, so same sex marriages are on hold once again, in California.

On Wednesday's show Rachel Maddow said she knew that the White House wouldn't like what she was about to say, but she didn't give "a flying flip." Maddow proceeded to say that President Obama is ruining the lives of gays and lesbians who are serving in the military simply because Obama is a coward, or because the President has no guts.

On tonight's show you met U.S. Army Captain Jonathan Hopkins, Catherine Miller and Lieutenant Colonel Victor Ferenbach who are having their careers ended.... Why are we kicking people out while we are waiting for the views of the Commander in Chief, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. If you are changing the policy soon why not hold off the ruination of lives under the policy now? Why not? I'll tell you why. Because that would take some political capital. That would take guts. And liberals, according to this White House, ought to be drug tested. Stop complaining and be happy for what you have. Lieutenant Dan Choi, Colonel Ferenbach, SBT Hopkins, they are expendable. Watch their careers destroyed, but stop complaining about it.

Judge Doubts Gay Marriage Opponents Can Appeal

If Judge Walker is right, the bad news is that his ruling will have less chance of becoming the law of the nation. The good news is that the legality of gay marriage will not be threatened in California.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- The federal judge who overturned California's same-sex marriage ban has more bad news for the measure's sponsors: he not only is unwilling to keep gay couples from marrying beyond next Wednesday, he doubts the ban's backers have the right to challenge his ruling. One of the reasons, the judge said, is he's not sure the proponents have the authority to appeal since they would not be affected by or responsible for implementing his ruling.

By contrast, same-sex couples are being denied their constitutional rights every day they are prohibited from marrying, Walker said. . . ''We just want equal rights. We're tired of being second-class citizens,'' said Amber Fox, 35, who went to the Beverly Hills Municipal Courthouse on Thursday morning in hopes of marrying her partner.

Democrats: Ex-WWE Exec Linda McMahon 'Kicks Men in the Crotch' (THE Video)

Democrats are convinced that one way to beat a woman is to accuse her of 'kicking men in the crotch,' and in the case of Linda McMahon, there's video (scroll down to watch it). Last night, former wrestling executive Linda McMahon won the GOP primary in the race for Chris Dodd's senate seat. McMahon spent 22 million of her own money in the primary campaign after quitting her job last fall as CEO of the family business - World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

The Dem strategy is focused on McMahon's role in a sexist and violent industry ("wrestlers indulging in mock-necrophilia, female wrestlers barking like dogs") and specifically on the woman's supposed history of 'kicking men in the crotch.'

In an apparent effort to further alienate the base, Robert Gibbs takes a shot at liberals who dare to criticize Obama for his abject failure to fight for progressive policies. Gibbs can't understand why liberals don't roll over and adore the Hyde Amendment embracing President. What's to criticize about the President who transformed the term 'fierce advocate' into a joke?
