Gays to Protest Obama's 'Big Gay Speech' at Human Rights Campaign Dinner

The Chicago-based Gay Liberation Network (GLN) will picket" Obama's "Big Gay Speech" tonight at the annual Human Rights Campaign (HRC) dinner.

Here's why, from GLN co-founder Andy Thayer:

“The time for talking is over. This President promised to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), he promised to repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, he promised to pass the pro-LGBT Employment Non-Discrimination Act and a whole host of other things. Instead, he’s delivered on nothing while embracing anti-gay bigots Rick Warren and Donnie McClurkin. The last thing we need is more flowery rhetoric in front of rich, self-effacing gays and lesbians dressed up like penguins."

C-Span will air Obama's speech. Sunday's historic civil rights march will also air on C-Span. And on a related note, Dan Savage reports that the head of the Human Rights Campaign insists that the LGBT community should refrain from criticizing the Nobel Prize winning president, or HRC has lost its mind:

HRC has lost its mind: the head of the Human Rights Campaign suggests that gay people really shouldn't criticize Barack Obama because "it's not January 19, 2017." Tens of thousands of gays and lesbians are pouring into Washington D.C. to march because we're upset with Barack Obama. Because we're tired of being told to wait, because we're tired of being told that our issues—our lives—are trivial, because we're tired of shit like this and this and this. And the largest gay rights group in the country announces—two days before the march—that the demonstration somehow illegitimate because it's not January 19, 2017?
