Grave and Deteriorating -- Iraq & the Bush Legacy

Now that the Iraq Study Group tells us that the conditions in Iraq are "grave and deteriorating," the really big question remains the same:

Will The Decider listen?

Will the pResident stop playing defensive about his legacy and start putting the welfare of the troops, the nation and the world before his own personal welfare?

Today, Al Gore called the Iraq war "the worst strategic mistake in the entire history of the United States" and "worse than a civil war." Gore urged Bush to "try to separate out the personal issues of being blamed in history for his mistake and instead recogniz[e] that it is not about him. It’s about our country."

The Wall Street Journal has the Iraq Study Group report 'executive summary'(pdf) online. (via Josh Marshall )

"I hear the voices, and I read the front page, and I know the speculation. But I'm the decider, and I decide what is best." --- pResident George W. Bush, April 18, 2006

UPDATE: Cursor reports that "Iraqi politicians don't put put much stock in the Iraq Study Group" and that "many of the panel's advisors have concluded 'the war is essentially already lost.'"
