North Country: First Sexual Harassment Class Action Suit

This is strange; there are now two films that I am actually eager to see.

Charlize Theron, who I thought was tremendous in Monster, stars in North Country, a film based on the book Class Action, which details the true story that led to the nation's first sexual harassment class action lawsuit. North Country opens Ocober 21.

Already the film has inspired a campaign against sexual harassment and domestic violence, in which YOU can participate. The campaign has a blog.

In the landmark case, LOIS E. JENSON v EVELETH TACONITE CO., Judge Donald Lay wrote:

It should be obvious that the callous pattern and practice of sexual harassment engaged in by Eveleth Mines inevitably destroyed the self-esteem of the working women exposed to it. The emotional harm, brought about by this record of human indecency, sought to destroy the human psyche as well as the human spirit of each plaintiff. The humiliation and degradation suffered by these women is irreparable.
