Justice Ginsburg Thought there Would be More Women on the Supreme Court

Quote of the Day

"[I]n my lifetime, I expect to see three, four, perhaps even more women on the High Court Bench."
-- Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 1993

Like many women, Justice Ginsburg had high expectations back in 1993 when she was appointed to the Supreme Court by Bill Clinton. Ginsburg is only the second woman ever appointed to the Supreme Court. She once said that she "would not like to be the only woman" on the High Court.

She is, of course, now the lone woman.

Back in the day, when Ginsburg was one of a very small group of women permitted to study at Harvard Law School, she was asked "how it felt to be taking up the spots of more-deserving, qualified males."

Justice Ginsburg is recuperating at a New York hospital after undergoing surgery last Thursday. The AP doesn't provide details on the status of her health, but reports that she "plans to be back at work for the court's next public session, less than three weeks after surgery for pancreatic cancer."

My thoughts and prayers are with her.

"Women will only have true equality when men share with them the responsibility of bringing up the next generation."
-- Ruth Bader Ginsburg
