Herstory: Remembering Ella Grasso

On this day in 1975, Ella Grasso -- the first woman in the United States to be elected governor in her own right -- took office in Connecticut.

Thirty-four years later, and we have a grand total of 8 women serving as governors in the 50 states. Is this progress? All told, the U.S. has had a mere 29 female governors (in 22 states) (pdf).
