No, this is not one of those Jay Leno 'How Stupid Are Americans on the Street' polls. This is a new Public Policy Polling poll and it finds that 39% of Americans want government to stay out of Medicare. Fifteen percent of Americans aren't sure, leaving only 46% who seem to actually know that Medicare is in fact a 100% government run single payer program! Gawd.
In other words, 54% of Americans are stupid. But this is not a surprise. Countless studies have confirmed that America is seriously behind the rest of the developed world in education. And, folks, this is the reason why we are the only developed country in the world that does not have universal health care.
Forget health care reform. What we need is education reform.
Democracy only works when you have an educated and informed citizenry, and it has been depressingly apparent for quite some time that our 'democracy' is utterly and mind-blowingly dysfunctional.
