Only 53% of Americans Say Capitalism Is Better Than Socialism

After eight years of unrestrained cowboy rule, the number of Americans who say socialism looks good is on the rise. Since we are all having such a great time with capitalism gone wild, the more Republicans scream about the evil socialism inherent in family supportive policies like universal health care, the better socialism looks.

They told us women couldn't have the vote because it would lead to socialism. They told us we couldn't have subsidized childcare because it would lead to socialism. Now they tell us we can't have universal health care because it will lead to socialism. Bring it on.

Eventually we might actually get that social democracy.

Rasmussen Reports:

Only 53% of American adults believe capitalism is better than socialism. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 20% disagree and say socialism is better. Twenty-seven percent (27%) are not sure which is better.

Graphic is from the book, Socialism, Feminism, and Suffragism, written by Benjamin Vestal Hubbard in 1915. Hubbard argued that women should not be permitted to vote because votes for women would lead to socialism.
