Black Group Issues Outrageous Ultimatum to Super Delegates

Every time it looks like Hillary has a shot at winning, the rumbling from the Obama fans starts up again. With blacks threatening to stay home if Obama doesn't get the nomination and large numbers of women vowing to stay home or write Hillary in, if she doesn't get it, things do not look good for the Democratic Party.

This little ultimatum from Color of Change can only increase the division and intensify the position of Hillary's supporters. Presumably, if Hillary wins the popular vote, the Super Delegates still must hand the nomination to Obama, or else. And never mind pesky little questions like who can actually win the general.

Obama Post:

One of the nation's largest Black American grassroots advocacy organizations is drawing a line in the sand for Democratic leadership: if Hillary Clinton is awarded the nomination by overturning the pledged delegate count there will be a political price to pay.

Color of Change, which has a reach of more than 400,000 people, is organizing a petition campaign to persuade superdelegates and congressional leaders that a Clinton win through the hands of party insiders would "disenfranchise millions" and constitute "a shocking attack on voting rights and democracy."

"Following this course," the letter reads, "would give your seal of approval to an 'electability' strategy executed by stoking race-based fear and division among voters.

On Thursday, McClatchy reported, "Many black voters are making it very clear: They're concerned that Barack Obama is going to be denied the Democratic presidential nomination that they see as rightfully his, and if that happens, a lot of them may stay home in November."

Indianapolis Star:

"We are tired of the TV media telling us it is a dead issue now. It still resonates," Kern-Jeffrey said. "I feel very strongly that I may just not vote at all if Obama is the nominee. It pains me to say that, but it is a strong possibility. A very strong possibility."

Big Tent Democrat:

Color of Change falsely smears the Clinton campaign while engaging in race baiting and divisive politics itself. Color of Change smears not only Hillary Clinton, but the millions of Democrats who support her. . As a Latino, I denounce and reject Color of Change's petition. It is an outrageous, divisive, racially polarizing and deplorable act. . This petition hurts the Democratic Party and it hurts Barack Obama's chances to win in November. Color of Change's petititon should be rejected by Democrats of all stripes.
