Tired of defending his bitter remarks, Barack Obama decided to give his audience some laughs by comparing Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton to Annie Oakley. The audience of Obama fans laughed and laughed. Like most women, Hillary does not have a long history with guns.
If Hillary did have a history with guns, if she was a hunter, you can be sure that the audience would have laughed louder. Earlier in the day, she spoke on the subject:
“You know, my dad took me out behind the cottage that my grandfather built on a little lake called Lake Winola outside of Scranton and taught me how to shoot when I was a little girl,” she said. “You know, some people now continue to teach their children and their grandchildren. It’s part of culture. It’s part of a way of life. People enjoy hunting and shooting because it’s an important part of who they are. Not because they are bitter. I have gone hunting. I am not a hunter. But I have gone hunting."
Probably Obama thinks his supporters aren't ridiculing and laughing at Hillary enough already, and so he gave them some new ideas. Appearing to share that sentiment, Drudge posted the story and the video.
Over at No Quarter, we learn that Obama's staff got the Annie Oakley idea from Obama Post. Like Hillary Clinton, Annie Oakley broke barriers for women. Of course, Annie Oakley was rewarded with laughter and ridicule. Here's Mr. Hope with New Politics:
STEELTON, PA. -- In his harshest rhetoric yet, Barack Obama defended the comments he made at San Francisco fundraiser, admonishing Hillary Clinton for what he calls, playing politics. . . While speaking to union workers at labor gathering here, Obama mocked Clinton, calling her Annie Oakley.
“She’s running around talking about how this is an insult to sportsmen, how she values the Second Amendment, she's talking like she’s Annie Oakley!,” Obama said. “Hillary Clinton’s out there like she's on the duck blind every Sunday. She’s packin’ a six shooter! Come on! She knows better. That’s some politics being played by Hillary Clinton. I want to see that picture of her out there in the duck blinds.”
And from Rebecca Traister at Salon: "Young women are growing increasingly frustrated with the fanatical support of Barack and gleeful bashing of Hillary. . Perhaps the hesitation to throw a Hillary placard in your window is related to the fear that doing so will make you –- like Clinton herself –- a regular laughingstock."
