Obama on small-town PA: Clinging to Religion, Guns, Xenophobia

Politico has the latest from the unity candidate, um, that would be media darling Barack Obama slamming small town Pennsylvanians as xenophobes. If only working class folks could have gone to Harvard like Barack! And they said John Kerry was too elitist to be president!

CNN has the story. MSNBC is still ranting and foaming at the corporate mouth about Hillary and Bill. Did the unity candidate get this stuff from Reverend Wright?

The man who objects, and righteously so, to racist stereotypes has a very serious problem with classist stereotypes:

Huffpo's Mayhill Fowler has more from Obama's remarks at a San Francisco fundraiser Sunday, and they include an attempt to explain the resentment in small-town Pennsylvania that won't be appreciated by some of the people whose votes Obama's seeking:

You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them…And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.

And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Response from Hillary Clinton: "Pennsylvanians don’t need a president who looks down on them. They need a president who stands up for them, who fights for them, who works hard for your futures, your jobs, and your families," she said, implicitly casting Obama as an elitist."

Response from John McCain -- John McCain adviser Steve Schmidt: "a remarkable statement and extremely revealing. It shows an elitism and condescension towards hardworking Americans that is nothing short of breathtaking. It is hard to imagine someone running for president who is more out of touch with average Americans."

And I’m supposed to think that those Obama lovers who are so quick to pile on me as old, dried-up, and blue-colalr and hence racist and stupid, are going to work to improve this country for the poor, unions, and the elderly?
