Hillary's Victory -- Women Vote Against Misogyny: The Tweety Effect (Video & Links)

Everyone's searching for reasons for Hillary's victory in New Hampshire. In my view, she is simply the best person for the job, but there can be no doubt that the misogyny oozing from media pundits like Chris Matthews got New Hampshire women good and mad and they showed it with their votes. Women put Hillary over the top - the gender gap was 13 points!

After Hillary's victory last night, Chris Matthews said he would never again underestimate Hillary Clinton. And then first thing this morning, Tweety was back in his usual misogynistic form (video below). I am a longtime MSNBC fan, but I had to switch to CNN last night -- Tweety's revolting sexism was making me vomit. Below are links to commentary on the Tweety Effect.

Pam Spaulding: ...'The Tweety Effect,' where the misogyny of a talking head in the MSM so enrages a demographic that they go out and vote in a manner that will put egg on the face of the talking head.

MyDD: Tweety Effect -noun 1. where the misogyny of a talking head in the MSM so enrages a demographic that they go out and vote in a manner that will put egg on the face of the talking head.

Taylor Marsh: One woman turned a much rumored, written and blathered about double digit Obama Blowout into a victory that left the entire punditocracy sucking their own wind back through the pie hole from which they spewed their sexist, venomous, biased, good old boy baloney day after day, night after night, week after week for it seems an eternity, which only got worse once Mr. Obama had one win -- one -- under his belt.

Jeff Fecke at Shakesville: Clinton won tonight because in the last few days, the level of misogyny directed toward her had reached a fever pitch, and the women of New Hampshire decided that they’d had enough of it.

Misogynist Chris Matthews on Hillary's Career (Jan 9, 2008)

Crooks and Liars: MADDOW: Pat, I will tell you that on the influential-influential, perhaps, on the left-website Talking Points Memo today, you want to know who they’re blaming for women voters breaking for Hillary Clinton over Barack Obama, who they’re blaming for this late showing and a big vote for Hillary Clinton? They’re blaming Chris Matthews. People are citing specifically Chris-not only for his own views but also for…as symbol of what the mainstream media has done to Hillary Clinton.

MATTHEWS: What website is this?

Digby: All the sickening media sexism we saw over the past couple of days didn't work and all liberals of good conscience should be relieved by that.

Christy Hardin Smith: What is wrong with Chris Matthews? With all of these media people? I mean that, in all honesty, what in the hell is wrong with them? Their personal loathing of Hillary Clinton shone through in every sniggering, overwrought report this week. Their building up of Barack Obama is only their prelude and set-up for the frenzied clawing and shredding of him that is to come. . . And Pam Spaulding nails it, calling it 'The Tweety Effect' . . . None of it has anything to do with substance. It's as if a pack of hyenas were crossbred with the characters in Mean Girls and then sent out to play at journalism.

Hillary is 44: The "Iron My Shirt” Big Media brigade, Russert, Matthews and all the funeral planners at Big Media newspapers and other Big Media outlets were beaten - by a woman.

Tom Watson: The Sexist Media Lynching of Hillary Clinton -- What kind of progressive American leader would stand silent, supporting with the cold reserve of ambition the disgracefully sexist, blatantly anti-feminist attack on a well-respected woman of the same party, a political foe perhaps, but a national Democratic leader?

Cliff Schecter: If there's any justice in the world . . . Next time Hillary won't pinch Chris's cheeks, she'll slap them.
