Dems Vow to Block Olson (Bush v. Gore Attorney) Nomination
Bush appears to be ready to nominate his Bush v. Gore attorney - Ted Olson - to replace Alberto Gonzales as the head of the Justice Department, aka the newest branch of the RNC.
But according to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid: "Ted Olson will not be confirmed."
Democratic leaders have called for Bush to nominate "a respected, moderate nominee to restore calm to the Justice Department." By "moderate" the Democrats mean a nominee who would serve what remains of the U.S. Constitution instead of the self-centered thug in the White House.
The New York Times insists that the Senate should refrain from confirming a nominee who just wants to help Republicans win elections. Instead "the Senate should only confirm a nonpolitical lawyer of unquestioned integrity." The Times editorial board is drinking the kool-aid if they think Bush is going to nominate anyone like that.
I know you will be so surprised to discover that there are no moderates on Bush's list of potential nominees. Still, there are less divisive rightwingers. [via]
But if your name is pResident George W. Bush, then the world revolves around you, and, of course, you would consider nominating a rigid rightwinger who just happens to have served as your own personal lawyer in the shameful Bush v. Gore case.
I mean this country could always be less united, and more divided, right? And clearly it's Bush's Justice Department, so it should always be headed by Bush's attorneys, right?
Ted Olson also served as one of the leaders of the Clinton witch hunt.
