In today's if-only-David-Brooks-ruled-the-world column, Brooks dreams about a third party that would save the day in America. David is nobody's progressive hero, so you will not be surprised to learn that the columnist-peering-down-at-the- little-people is not dreaming of the Green Party.
In Brooks' view, the center -- as he and Joe Lieberman define it -- is the dream party.
And the McCain-Lieberman Party was represented by Joe Lieberman himself, giving a concession speech that explained why polarized primary voters shouldn’t be allowed to define the choices in American politics. (emphasis added)
If you're wondering exactly who should be "allowed to define the choices," or choose the candidates, look for a big clue in the name of David's dream party.
A McCain-Lieberman marriage is the dream team political party to die for. Just imagine, Republican values repackaged into polite old dull conservative white males. We wouldn't ever have to see Dick Cheney or Karl Rove again. They could just text message instructions to the civiltarians.
The McCain-Lieberman Party believes in 'civility.' Cause One Party Rule is all the rage. The very idea of an opposition party is just so rude. Ned Lamont offends conservative white male sensibilities. What are the impolite Democrats thinking?
The McCain-Lieberman Party sees the world from a David Brooks lens.
Brooks is so voting for it!
