Update -- CIA Analyst Larry Johnson Says Joe Wilson Has Also Heard that Karl Rove's Ass Has Been Indicted
Truthout: Karl Rove Has Been Indicted - '24 Hours to Get His Affairs in Order'
Things are getting pretty intense in an 'Is Rove or isn't Rove indicted, dammit?' mini war. You can see some of it at DU, where William Pitt points out, "those 24 hours are "business hours," i.e. starting on Monday."
Meanwhile, over at Talkleft, attorney Jeralyn
confirms that the email message at DU from Larry Johnson (scroll down) is indeed from Larry Johnson: "One last note on former CIA Analyst Larry Johnson's comment on Democratic Underground that Joseph Wilson received the same information as Jason: Some have questioned whether Larry really wrote the comment, or whether it was an imposter. I e-mailed Larry, and he responded, indeed it was him. He added, 'Joe [Wilson] heard the same things but not from Jason. If these multiple sources are lying then I certainly hope Jason outs their a*s.'"
Jeralyn adds: "Bottom line: I believe Jason's sources told him what he reported. Were the sources accurate? Were they basically right but just mistaken on a few of the legal technicalities due to an unfamiliarity with the jargon? Time will tell. If they lied, Jason has promised to disclose their identities." Also, see Rove Camp denies everything.
I don't know what happened to my inner skeptic, but I find myself compelled to believe that Fitzmas is indeed coming! If you missed it, you can review MSNBC's David Shuster's reasons for his May 8th prediction of an imminent Rove indictment. End of Update. ----
11:00 am May 14, 2006:
While Jason Leopold at Truthout is still the only source for the Fitzmas story, those who have trouble believing in Fitzmas should find solace in the words of Larry Johnson (via Talkleft):
It is not just Jason Leopold. Joe Wilson heard the same from other sources. And, more importantly, Jason is reporting based on multiple, more than two, sources. His editors realized what a big story this is and did the appropriate checking before posting. They are called Truth Out for a reason. Getting the truth out.
Truthout:
Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald spent more than half a day Friday at the offices of Patton Boggs, the law firm representing Karl Rove.
During the course of that meeting, Fitzgerald served attorneys for former Deputy White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove with an indictment charging the embattled White House official with perjury and lying to investigators related to his role in the CIA leak case, and instructed one of the attorneys to tell Rove that he has 24 hours to get his affairs in order, high level sources with direct knowledge of the meeting said Saturday morning.
Also, Karl Rove was scheduled to speak Monday at the rightwing American Enterprise Institute, but oddly enough, the event is not listed at the AEI's site.
On a related note, Fitzgerald is seriously eyeing Cheney; see Josh Marshall for exhibit A.
Happy Mothers Day everyone. Of course, what every mother needs most is a Karl Rove indictment!
