What is amazing is that the My-Way-Or-The-Highway Bush Administration is accepting the aid. Moreover, the U.S. has actually accepted the Irrelevant U.N.'s offer of assistance. (Hat tip to Americablog )
Dozens of countries, including those formerly mocked and denigrated by the Bush regime, have offered to help the U.S. come to grips with the horrific Katrina disaster.
None has been turned down, Rice said at a news conference, disputing a report from Moscow that a Russian offer had been rejected. She said some offers were being taken up immediately and others "somewhat later," depending on needs on the ground.
"I hope that will remind Americans that we are all part of the same community," Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Friday as offers kept pouring in.
And that is a truly amazing statement coming as it does from an Administration which has consistently sent the American people a completely different message. If Condi Rice has put a muzzle on Rumy and a chink in Bush's me-macho-go-it-alone-cowboy armor, I may have to rethink my opinion of her.
Some of the dozens of countries that have offered to help the U.S. are:
Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, Guatemala, Paraguay, Belgium, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Italy, Guyana, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Austria, Lithuania, Spain, Dominica, Norway, Cuba, Bahamas, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ecuador, Iceland, India, Jordan, Luxembourg, the Philippines, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand and Turkey.
