Supreme Rumors Update

Some people got drunk last night in response to the rumor that Justice Stevens is about to resign. Others had nightmares and some of us just couldn't get a wink of sleep.

Maybe tonight will be better 'cause the Supreme Court Nomination Blog says it ain't so.

"We're getting lots of calls about the possibility of Justice Stevens retiring. This is an annually recurring rumor. We do know for a fact that Justice Stevens this week interviewed a number of people for his 2006-2007 clerkships and soon thereafter starting making offers. So his retirement seems exceptionally unlikely."

That's good enough for me. The replacement of O'Connor and Rehnquist is plenty to worry about. Still no word from Rehnquist, but the new rumor is that he's pushed the announcement off until Monday due to the news out of London. Or maybe he just likes playing with us.

ACSBlog has another credible source who swears Rehnquist is indeed quitting, but it may not be today.
