South Knox Bubba Quits: Leaves Liberal Void in TN Blogosphere

The Tennessee blogosphere is reeling in shock and disbelief over the decision by South Knox Bubba to close up his blog:

"It was fun,but lately it has become too much like work and not so much fun. Contrary to wild speculation around the internets, that's pretty much all there is to it. It's a personal decision, and that's all. Thanks to everyone for reading and for your participation over the years. With that, I bid you adieu."

Previous Message received from Bubba:

I'm quitting. Getting to be too much like work and I'm just tired of all the hassles. Thanks for reading and thanks for your support.

Cheers!
SKB

Despite Bubba's claims to the contrary, there remains widespread speculation that there are indeed other reasons behind the decision of the long-time East Tennessee liberal blogger to end his blogging days.

A short time ago, Brian Conley - the owner of the Knoxville Metro Pulse - threatened to reveal the identity of the anonymous blogger. Bubba responded by 'outing' himself and confessing that it might prove hard for him to earn a living in his conservative town once his liberal leanings were known.

You can join Bubba's fans for discussions here and here.

My thanks to CE Petro at Thoughts of an Average Woman for the heads up.

What bloggers are saying:

This is a big blow to the Tennessee blogosphere -- not only is Bubba a witty writer and talented photographer, but he also made many quiet contributions to the online world, like the Bubba Blab and Rocky Top Brigade community and databases. I wonder how much his exit had to do with Brian Conley's aggression...

A sad day. . SayUncle reports that SK Bubba is no longer blogging. We can only hope he will return. For more than three years, he challenged, provided insight, provoked, and made us laugh. Thanks, SKB.

I am truly saddened. SK was a respected blogger, respected by many. I relied on his posts for local happenings. He was fair in his assessments, and his photography was outstanding. He provided a place for folks to blab when the local progressive paper dismanteled their forum. SKBubba has done a tremendous amount for Tennessee bloggers, myself included. He will be missed.

Bubba brought a lot of us together through the Rocky Top Brigade, and I'll miss him.

Y'know, I am still at a loss for words upon seeing that the venerable South Knox Bubba has decided to hang up the keyboard. . . Crap. . Crap.. Crap.. Crap.. .

Tragic day in Blogistan . . . For three years, Bubba has filled a void in East Tennessee. His site has served as an invaluable resource for news, commentary, insight, and community interaction unparalleled in our region. I hope he reconsiders and relaunches his site. If he chooses not to, then that void will have already returned.

SouthKnoxBubba's blog is dead. In fact, I guess you could say South Knox Bubba, the persona, the character, is dead too. I am reminded of Tim Burton's Nightmare before Christmaswhere the mayor runs around with the megaphone reporting, "Terrible news, everyone. Jack Skellington is dead!" Refugees from Bubba Blab are here.

Bubba, thank you and Mrs. Bubba for all you have done. I am leaving you at the top of the list in the hope you might return. Besides, that's where you belong.

--LeftWingCracker

My best wishes to SKB and his lovely wife. Thank you both for the kindness you’ve shown to this little ol’ hillbilly blogger. Good luck and best wishes to you both :))

--Deb at Sugarfused.net

I wish you and Mrs. Bubba all the best, know that you will be missed. Bubba and if you want ever to rent the soapbox here for awhile, the price is right for you: free. All the best...

--Jo Fish Democratic Veteran

Best wishes Bubba wherever your life takes you, and if you ever get back on-line, I'm sure the bubbhists will quickly migrate back to their favorite roost on the internet.

I probably would have quit blogging many times over if not for his frequent encouragement; encouragement which he was probably not even aware that he was giving. The encouragement was not just in the area of artistic expression. His site offered hope for positive social change in a region that he and I both truly love. Today that region lost a great communicator and a great light. I hope that after taking some time off he might reconsider his decision, but whatever the future holds, I wish him and his family the very best.

South Knox Bubba has quit. I hope not for permanently.Utterly aside from being a good writer and an incisive mind and a refreshing liberal voice from a red state, he is also well known in Casa Sisyphus for having completely iced me in the Koufaces. Damn. Hurry Back.

--Sisphus Shrugged

My apologies for not including everyone. There's more here.

Bubba, as you can see, you will be missed, big time.
