John Roberts: Married to Anti-Choice Org VP

Bush's white male replacement for Sandra Day O'Connor, John G. Roberts is married to Jane Roberts who is the former executive vice president of Feminists for Life.

Knight Ridder - Bush makes shrewd choice for high court nominee:

" [I]n 1991, [John Roberts] wrote a high court brief arguing that Roe v. Wade 'was wrongly decided and should be overruled'.

They'll ask, in Senate hearings, whether Roberts agrees with Thomas and Scalia that the federal right to an abortion should be shelved. (He wrote his 1991 brief on behalf of his superiors. Does he personally share that belief?) They'll ask whether he shares [Thomas' and Scalia's) view that states should be permitted to define gay sex as a crime.

They'll ask whether he shares their view that the barrier between church and state should be lowered (on that issue, he cowrote a 1992 legal brief arguing that public high schools should be allowed to conduct religious ceremonies as part of a graduation program). "

Talkleft reports that Roberts:

" [S]aid police did not violate the constitutional rights of a 12-year-old girl who was arrested, handcuffed and detained for eating a single french fry inside a train station in Washington.

Joined an appeals court ruling in 2004 that upheld police trunk searches, even if officers do not say they are looking for evidence of a crime.

Roberts was part of a unanimous decision last week that allowed the Pentagon to proceed with plans to use military tribunals to try terrorism suspects held at Guantanamo Bay. "
