Swiftboating Children

Have you been following the rightwing smear campaign against the SCHIP child and his family? Nevermind the time honored practice of criticizing elected officials, we have now sunk so low that rightwingers find it acceptable to unite around the little political project of a coordinated attack on "two children who were severely injured in a car accident."

Graeme Frost is the 12 year old boy who delivered the Democrats' radio response to Bush's opposition to SCHIP. SCHIP is the program that provides health care to millions of needy kids. Pundits and bloggers from the Right are now doing their utmost to punish Graeme for daring to speak out about his family's reliance on SCHIP to meet both his medical needs and the needs of his brain damaged sister.

The guilty members of the Family Values Party include: Michelle Malkin, Wizbang, Powerline, Free Republic, The National Review, the Weekly Standard and Rush Limbaugh. All are busily spreading lies about the Frost family, lies that paint Graeme and his sister as poor little rich kids who are being "pampered" by big government.

The harassment of the Frost family includes phone calls to their home and visits to their business. Michelle Malkin actually drove by the Frost family home in order to publicize a sensational and misinformed drive-by appraisal of the home's value.

Read the shameful lies on the rightwing sites above or read the facts over at Think Progress.

Clearly, the message from the rightwing rabble is: Politics is not for kids. Yeah, well, if it's going to be like this, it's not for some of us adults either. And good luck getting more and better adults to participate in the blood sport.

Update: It gets worse. Crooks and Liars reports that Free Republic has posted Frost’s home address. Update #2: In a page right out of Sicko, The NY Times reports: "[T]he Frosts said they had recently been rejected by three private insurance companies because of pre-existing medical conditions."
