Tennessee Governor Commutes Battered Woman's Death Sentence

I'm amazed that Governor Bredesen has done this good thing. Death sentences never get commuted in Tennessee, but the Governor commuted this one.

Ms. Owens is a battered woman who was scheduled for execution on September 28, 2010.

Gaile Owens allegedly hired someone to kill her abusive husband. She's been on death row for 25 years. Obviously, the woman represents a severe danger to abusive husbands everywhere. Thanks to some miracle called Phil Bredesen's lame duck days, Gaile Owens can finally move off death row. The woman will be eligible for parole in 2012. Why not 2010?
