The idiot who forwarded the racist email comparing First Lady Michelle Obama to a chimpanzee has been fired. Walt Baker, CEO of the Tennessee Hospitality Association, has put Tennessee back into the national and international headlines as home to racist idiots. One would like to believe that a blatant racist could not rise to his position. Alas, racists, like sexists, appear to be everywhere. When I was a kid, we used to speculate that eventually all the racists would die off. Hah. What a hopelessly naive theory. Unfortunately, humans have the most remarkable ability to reproduce the worst and vilest of traits:
Today, Baker has officially lost his position as CEO of the Tennessee Hospitality Association. The action comes after a firestorm erupted when it was revealed that Baker had sent an email to a small group of prominent Nashvillians comparing Michelle Obama to Tarzan’s chimpanzee, Cheeta.
Baker's business partner has also had it:
“He has in essence thrown away a 30-year career in this business, and he has effectively killed this business,” Martin said. “I’ll be leaving Mercatus. … Effectively, there is no confidence or trust left in that entity, and I understand why.”
