Woman Wins Prestigious Best Director Award. Sexist Cracks Ensue.

Kathryn Bigelow has become the first woman to win an award from the Directors' Guild of America. The DGA award marks Ms. Bigelow as a favorite for the Best Director Oscar. That would be another huge first for women. The award also marks Bigelow's film Hurt Locker as an early favorite for Best Picture. (Oscar nominees will be announced Tuesday.)

It didn't take long for the men to remind Ms. Bigelow of her place. Director Lee Daniels said:

"Kathryn, your movie is as beautiful as your legs. You make me question my sexuality."

Hurt Locker star Jeremy Renner joked, "The only thing to rival Kathryn Bigelow in a bikini is Lee Daniels in a one-piece."

"This is a big, bold blast in the glass ceiling for all women directors."
