Sheriff: Balloon Boy Drama Was a Hoax (Video)

"It has been determined that this is a hoax, that it was a publicity stunt and we believe we have evidence at this point to indicate that this was a publicity stunt in hopes to better market themselves for a reality show."
-- Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden

In a press conference just minutes ago, Sheriff Jim Alderden stated that the balloon incident was a publicity stunt staged "to promote a reality show." The Sheriff said that Richard and Mayumi Heene are very good actors (listen to their 911 call) The family will soon be arrested and will likely face felony charges including contributing to the delinquency of a minor, "conspiracy, false reporting and attempt to influence an officer."

The sheriff admitted that he purposefully mislead the press and the nation in an earlier press conference. At that time, Sheriff Alderden indicated that the police department believed the family's account and did not believe that the incident was a hoax. Apparently, this statement was a ruse meant to mislead the Heene family. I watched that press conference. It sure mislead me. I feel like such a sucker.

"[Richard and Mayumi Heene] put on a very good show for us, and we bought it."
