Candidate Obama to Planned Parenthood: My Public Plan Will Include Reproductive Care (Video)

Candidate Barack Obama to Planned Parenthood - "In my mind, reproductive care is essential care, it is basic care . . it is at the center and the heart of the plan that I propose. Essentially . . we're going to set up a public plan that all persons and all women can access if they don't have health insurance. It will be a plan that will provide all essential services, including reproductive services." (7/17/07)

Gee, I wonder if the Planned Parenthood crowd thought that candidate Obama's promise of "reproductive services" in his promised "public plan" meant that women would get subsidized visits to fertility clinics.

President Barack Obama to Congress and Nation - "And one more misunderstanding I want to clear up – under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place." (9/9/09)

What a difference an inaugeration makes. In 2009, reproductive services are restricted by President Obama's promise of a continued "robust" conscience clause. And access to abortion is not included in President Obama's public plan (unlike in Hillary's 1990s public plan). The masterful politican will not even say that there will actually be a public plan. Rather President Obama offers the most tepid support for such a plan. That's because, in fact, the public plan has already been sold down the river.

"The first thing I'd do, as president, is sign the Freedom of Choice Act. That's the first thing that I'd do."
"In a press conference on April 29, 2009, President Obama said that although he supports a woman's right to choose, passage of the Freedom of Choice Act was 'not highest legislative priority.'"
