Here's German Chancellor Angela Merkel inviting the world to gaze upon her husband's "hot" body by asking the question:
"How good looking is my husband?"
And doesn't hubbie Joachim Sauer appear to be pleased with the cascade of leering eyes running up and down his body? Maybe the First Laddie should turn around and give us the full view.
Okay, just kidding. Angela Merkel didn't say that. It wouldn't be appropriate. Just like it wasn't appropriate when Barack Obama stood on the world stage and asked:
"How good looking is my wife?"
While many of us winced with embarrassment when Barack Obama invited the world to gaze upon Michelle Obama's "hot" body and evaluate her looks, the President's view of women is hardly unique.
But as the leader of the free world, President Obama should be modeling respect for women, and that does not mean modeling adolescent behavior which continues the longstanding patriarchal tradition of assessing the value of women as the sum total of our looks. Obama can slap Michelle on the ass and talk about how good looking she is all he wants in private, but when he is on the world stage, he needs to clean up his act.
