Russ Feingold: Obama 's Rejection of Public Funding is a Mistake

Some say Barack Obama's rejection of public funding is just the same old unprincipled politics of the ends justifying the means, or expediency over principle. But Barack Obama argues that he is opting out of the public campaign finance system because the system is broken:

"[T]the public financing of presidential elections as it exists today is broken, and we face opponents who've become masters at gaming this broken system."

Russ Feingold says Obama is mistaken:

"This is not a good decision," Feingold said in a statement today. "While the current public financing system for the presidential primaries is broken, the system for the general election is not. The entire system must be updated. . . [T]his decision was a mistake."
