Fighting Dems

For the Hillary supporters who were on the front lines of the primary battle, it's not so easy to flip a switch and get over it. Hopefully there are some fair-minded Obama loving progressives out there who get this, because we've seen way too much of the other kind.

We've been getting a lot of comments here that bash and thrash and accuse some of our most valued Hillary supporters of being traitors to the country, etcetera. So even though the primary is over, I'm putting the handy guide to Obama commenter behavior (see below) up again. And I urge both the Obamas and the Hillarys to try to listen to each other with respect. I know it's hard to do that on the internet. I have neighbors and even a dentist who are longtime Democrats now thinking of voting for McCain. Believe it or not, I have not insulted them (especially my dentist!) or called them "evil white trash Republicans."

Not that I have always been the patron saint of patience myself, but we all might learn something if we listen and respond to each other with respect. The "idiot" you are responding to, might even listen to you and learn something -- if you do not call her an "idiot."

It might be a good idea if we come out of this Season of Disunity on the same side. (If you have related concerns, email me: egalia at earthlink dot net.)

PS - If your comments approach the size of essays, consider starting your own blog. They may be deleted. Also, posters who appear to always be looking for a fight will eventually be banned.

Attack/Gloat mode. ”Hillary is evil. Clintonistas are racist, uneducated old, irrelevant, paleofeminists, white-trash republican trolls.”
Threat Mode. ”If McCain wins, say good bye to roe v wade; say hello to the 100 year war, say goodbye to life on earth as we know it, and its all your fault”! And if Obama loses its because HRC continued her campaign through June 3rd!
Tantrum Mode. “Fine, go ahead and vote McCain, then! We don’t need you anyway! We’ve replaced you with millions of new voters! You were never a real democrat. The party is better off without you!”
Stark reality mode. Among themselves: “Oh shit…maybe we do need the Clintonistas in November!” To HRC supporters: “come on, we’re all democrats, we need to pull together, can’t we just get along?”
Over-confidence Mode. ”I’m not worried. HRC supporters will come around and vote Obama in Nov. After all, where else can they go? So let’s keep having fun beating them up!”
