John Edwards Leads in Iowa

John Edwards -- who is by far the most progressive of all the viable presidential candidates -- has a substantial lead in the Democratic presidential race in Iowa, according to the new ONE poll (pdf).

Edwards has the support of 30 percent of likely caucus-goers, compared to Sen. Hillary Clinton at 22 percent, Sen. Barack Obama at 18 percent and Gov. Bill Richardson at 13 percent. Dennis Kucinich's support weighs in at 1 percent.

John and Elizabeth Edwards are currently on a bus tour across Iowa.

When asked in an interview with U.S. News -- "If elected, what legacy would you want to leave?" -- Edwards replied, "This is a president who made opportunity available to everybody. Period."

In a statement released just today, John Edwards said "he will divest his holdings in funds linked to lenders that have foreclosed on Hurricane Katrina victims." Edwards said to the Associated Press: "I will not have my family's money involved in these firms that are foreclosing on people in New Orleans." [via ]
