Edwards Reconsiders Hire of Feminist Bloggers

Unbelievably today's New York Times reports that the Edwards campaign is reconsidering the hire of feminist bloggers Amanda Marcotte and Melissa McEwan. The question is: Does John Edwards have the same kind of spine that Kerry displayed in 2004? If so, we don't want him. [Email Edwards]

Rightwingers have gone into to full anti-feminist swift-boating mode -- the rightwing blogosphere has moved this story to the mainstream media. As one rightwing blogger puts it: Patriarchy nearly done crushing Edwards blogger’s dissent.

The leader of an ultra conservative religious group has "demanded" that Edwards fire feminist bloggers Amanda Marcotte and Melissa McEwan.

What's next? A demand that Hillary Clinton withdraw from the presidential race?

The Washington Post reports that "Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights called the feminist bloggers "anti-Catholic, vulgar, trash-talking bigots." (See some of the dirt on Donahue at Shakespeare's Sister.)

Cause defending reproductive rights is anti-catholic, and doing it in Cheney-speak is just so damn fucking vulgar.

We think Edwards should hear from some folks who might actually vote for him.

Please send him your letters, and, like Richard at the All Spin Zone says, tell Edwards that we are looking for a Democrat with a spine!

The Crimes of Feminist Bloggers:

"Among the McEwan posts that Donohue listed was one she posted on Feb. 21, 2006, on her site, Shakespeare's Sister. She questioned what religious conservatives don't understand about 'keeping your noses out of our britches, our beds and our families?'"

"Ms. Marcotte wrote in December that the Roman Catholic Church’s opposition to the use of contraception forced women 'to bear more tithing Catholics.' In another posting last year, she used vulgar language to describe the church doctrine of the Immaculate Conception."

"She has also written sarcastically about the news media coverage of the three Duke lacrosse players accused of sexual assault, saying: 'Can’t a few white boys sexually assault a black woman anymore without people getting all wound up about it? So unfair.'"

"Ms. McEwan referred in her blog to President Bush’s 'wingnut Christofascist base' and repeatedly used profanity in demanding that religious conservatives stop meddling with women’s reproductive and sexual rights. Multiple postings use explicit and inflammatory language on a variety of issues."

UPDATE: FIRE CHRIS MATTHEWS [AND CHENEY]: MSNBC's Chris Matthews says the "F" word on television: "I want a guy to run for President who doesn’t have a fucking — I’m sorry, a ranch." (via Think Progress)
