Congressman Cohen (D-TN) Talks About Impeachment

U.S. Rep.-elect Steve Cohen says the House Judiciary Committee was his first pick, and he's happy that Nancy Pelosi accommodated his request.

I'm sure Nancy Pelosi is also happy about it -- happy to have a bleeding heart liberal from the red state of Tennessee!

Cohen said one reason he wants to be on the Judiciary Committee is because if impeachment hearings happen, he will be where the action is. Woohoo! This man is going to be so much more fun to blog about than the one who formerly held his seat -- that would be Harold "I Ain't No Liberal" Ford.

Cohen said he thinks the issues that could lead to impeachment proceedings against Bush are more serious than they were against President Clinton.

"And there is the prophylactic effect of impeaching a president so that other presidents might know how far they can go and should go," Cohen said.

Cohen said his priorities on the committee will include: "civil liberties, civil rights, women's rights, and privacy rights that I hold dear."

"I think it's what makes America the unique country, that it is the Bill of Rights," he said. "And the Bill of Rights' first line of defense is the Judiciary Committee."

Speaking of impeachment, CNN's Jack Cafferty thinks "Not Impeaching is Strange."

There's lots more on the subject of impeachment over at the Impeach Bush Coalition, and at a million other places. Like they say, the impeachment drumbeat has begun.
