A New Liberal Day: Mandate for the Democrats
Democrats won the Senate by a close margin in Virginia. Yet nationally, or in all of America, the Democrats won the Senate (55% v. 42.4%) by a whopping margin of 12.6%!
That sounds like a mandate for change.
Oh yeah, Bushie's job approval rating is falling again. Currently it is at 31% and still falling, we presume.
According to exit poll data, Democrats won 60 percent of voters aged 18-29 and Republicans won 38 percent. Yet another sign that Republicans are dinosaurs, and the entire species is headed for extinction. We can't wait.
As Colbert says, R.I.P. GOP Congress.
Despite a lot of conservative whining, which claims there is no mandate for change because Dems are really conservatives in Dem clothing, clearly, we are headed for a new liberal era. It may take some time, but the "100-hour legislative blitz" promised by Pelosi and House Dems is a good start.
The promised blitz of liberal legislation includes: "[R]aising the minimum wage, boosting alternative-energy research and repealing tax breaks for oil companies. . . beef[ing] up seaport screening, expand[ing] college tuition assistance, boost[ing] stem cell research and allow[ing] the federal government to negotiate lower drug prices under Medicare."
OOoh, what a scary liberal agenda, especially after the death-embracing conservative agenda we've become accustomed to. Republicans who oppose the life-affirming agenda of the Democrats, will do so at their peril.
And Harry Reid, the incoming Senate Majority Leader, tells us that "'the first order of business' will be to reinvigorate Congressional scrutiny of the executive branch, with a focus on Iraq."
Al Rodgers over at dkos has a great collection of headlines from this historic week, headlines which make the point that a new liberal day is dawning!
