Cuz After All -- Whose Land Is It, Anyway?
A day-brightening bit of geographical transgression to contemplate, as we await South Dakota state senator Bill Napoli’s ruminations on just how bad incest, like rape, would have to be before he’d allow an otherwise-virginal young Christian to have an abortion under that state's new forced-childbirth law:
Says Cecilia Fire Thunder, President of the Oglala Sioux Tribe on South Dakota’s Pine Ridge Reservation: “I will personally establish a Planned Parenthood clinic on my own land, which is within the boundaries of the Pine Ridge Reservation where the State of South Dakota has absolutely no jurisdiction.”
A former nurse and healthcare worker, Fire Thunder added, “To me, it is now a question of sovereignty.”
What's that old saying? "You want something done right, find a woman to do it"?
