Alito Hearings: Day Two
Alito said his approach to the issue of abortion would be different today than in 1985. He said that "his 1985 statement -- that the Constitution does not protect a right to an abortion -- accurately reflected his view at the time, and he cautioned that the principle of respect for Supreme Court precedents is not 'an inexorable command' binding justices in future rulings."
Remarkably, Alito defended his draconian opinion holding that women must notify husbands before obtaining an abortion. Anyone who thinks this guy is mainstream, needs to look at his 19th century view on the State's right to mandate old-time wifely duties.
Things should get much more interesting now that Kennedy is on.
