Culture of Corruption

It's anybody's guess which GOP crook is going to be indicted next, but rumours suggest that Plamegate will soon come to a head and Rove will hopefully get to join his pal, Delay over there in the newly founded GOP Indicted Club. Delay needs some clever company in his club cause his defense is pathetic.

As Delay spins it, his indictment is nothing but a "political witch hunt . . .the product of a coordinated, premeditated campaign of political retribution, the all-too predictable result of a vengeful investigation led by a partisan fanatic."

Yeah, right, and the Republican Party represents the people. The unspun truth is, the "partisan fanatic" is Texas, Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle, a man who "has prosecuted four times as many Democrats as Republicans. . Over Earle’s 27-year tenure, his Public Integrity Unit has prosecuted 15 elected officials."

Twelve of the 15 elected officials prosecuted by the "partisan fanatic" were Democrats.

I guess the Lie Master must be working on his own defense, cuz Rove sure ain't helping Delay with his flimsy fabrications.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Government just released a list of the 13 most corrupt members of Congress. Can you believe that 11 of the 13 are Republicans? Of course you can. Delay's temporary (maybe) heir to the House Majority Leader throne is number uno on the List of the Corrupted.

Delay's successor, Roy Blunt "has so many connections to people and companies under investigation by federal law enforcement you'd think you were reading about a gangster, rather than one of America's most powerful politicians," observes David Sirota.

Corruption seems to be the number one qualification for high office in the Bush regime. Somewhere in fine print, it is surely written: Only corrupt cronies need apply.

But it's getting harder and harder to keep up with all the Republican corruption scandals. There's the little matter of the Senate Majority Leader's investigation by both the SEC and the Justice Department. There's the Jack Abramoff and David H. Safavian scandals. There's Brownie and the Federal Emergency Mismanagement Agency, and it's anybody's guess what Cheney was really doing while Bush was fiddling through the Katrina disaster.

The GOP likes to pepper the public with its idea of warm cozy fantasy soundbites like "compassionate conservativism." Compassionate corruption is more like it. Cuz compassion has every bit as much to do with corruption as it does with conservativism.

In the GOP Culture of Corruption, only compassionate corrupt cronies need apply.

UPDATE: We've just added this bumper sticker to our shop over there in the sidebar. You know you want it. We have it on a shirt too!
