Martha Burk Goes After Wal-Mart

Feministing reports that Martha Burk has pulled some more social justice tricks out of her bottomless bag. Remember, Martha Burk will be signing her new book at the upcoming NOW Conference here in Nashville.

The National Council of Women's Organizations said on Tuesday it would introduce a resolution at Wal-Mart Stores Inc. shareholder meeting to make the company offer equal pay for equal work regardless of gender.

The NCWO said the resolution would be presented on Friday by its chairwoman, Martha Burk.

"The resolution ... focuses on potential discriminatory practices against women and minorities in Wal-Mart distribution of stock options and in awarding of restricted stock to employees," the NCWO said in a statement.

Poor Wal-Mart. If it's not getting hammered on sex and race discrimination, it's getting smeared on health care. One of the reasons Tennessee is so poor is that it subsidizes Wal-Mart. If it weren't for the state of Tennessee, almost 25% of Wal-Mart employees in this state would be forced to make do without health care.

Studies conducted recently in 13 states show a high ratio of Wal-Mart employees on Medicaid.
