Dr. Frist Blunders At Harvard: Says South Korea Has Nukes

This sort of embarrassing gaffe is what happens when you spend too much time hanging with Bush. Not exactly the way to impress the folks at Harvard.

The Harvard Crimson reports:

In apparent gaffe, Frist says South Korea has nukes during Harvard speech

In what appears to have been a verbal blunder, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said in a speech at Harvard Medical School (HMS) today that South Korea currently possesses nuclear weapons and is developing a long-range missile program.

The Tennessee Republican appears to have conflated South Korea—a longtime U.S. ally—with North Korea, a totalitarian state that claims to possess nuclear arms.

Frist said:

“Right now in South Korea, and you read it on the front page—Star Wars may not be the answer to it—but there are people in South Korea now who are testing missiles to send out which will be able to reach 500 miles, 1,000 miles, 1,500 miles. And we know that they’ve got nuclear weapons.”
