Anti-Choice Amendment Passes Senate Committee, Next Stop: Ultra Conservative TN Senate Floor

With minimal debate, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed the proposed anti-choice amendment (SJR 127) last Tuesday by a vote of 7-1. According to my google search, a local college newspaper, Sidelines, was the first to cover the story.

No word yet on when this measure will go the full Senate vote, but there's no chance that the ultra-conservative Senate will not pass it. As in years past, it will be up to the House to defeat this draconian measure.

The proposed amendment would strip the state constitution of the guarantee of abortion rights.

The misogynistic amendment provides no exceptions for rape or incest victims, no exceptions to preserve the health of a woman, and no exceptions even to save a woman's life! In fact, the bill's sponsor, extremist Sen. David Fowler (R-Signal Mountain) withdrew the measure last year after it was amended to permit exceptions for rape, incest and a threat to a woman's life.
