Gloria Steinem is rightly calling out the Democrats in charge of the Democratic Convention for discriminating against moms, or women with children. No children allowed on the convention floor and no comprehensive child care sounds like a convention designed for men who have wives at home with the kids, as in the 1950s. For Shame.
Steinem said:
“Women are the key to a Democratic victory, and sometimes, children are the key to women. It’s both right and smart for the Democratic Convention to behave as if children exist.”
More women weigh in:
NOW’s Pacific Shore chapter President Zoe Nicholson told the DC that they believe “this practice of discrimination needs to end in 2012,”
Democratic delegate Susie Shannon told the Charlotte Observer that she resents the position she is in, having to choose between either attending the convention or caring for her 4-year-old child.
“The Democratic Party shouldn’t put you in a position where you have to choose between your child and participating in a political convention,” said Shannon.
