McCain Makes MLK Speech, Under An Umbrella Held by a Black Man

The Republican Party's idea of reaching out to Blacks: They can stand out there in the rain holding up our umbrellas for us while we ruling white men make phony speeches about Martin Luther King, Jr. Here's John McCain looking eerily masterful as he marks the 40th anniversary of Martin Luther King's assassination:


Sen. John McCain apologized Friday for opposing a federal holiday honoring Martin Luther King Jr. as he honored the slain civil rights leader at the hotel where he was assassinated 40 years ago. In a speech outside the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, McCain said he was "slow ... to give greatness its due" before eventually supporting a state MLK holiday in Arizona.

"I was wrong and eventually realized that, in time to give full support for a state holiday in Arizona," he said. "We can all be a little late sometimes in doing the right thing, and Dr. King understood this about his fellow Americans."

ABC News notes that McCain's reputation for being nasty "persists today." According McCain's high school yearbook (class of 1954), the Republican presidential wannabe was also known as "Punk."
