King George Was Once Popular

"I've been popular before, as president," Mr. Bush said tightly. "And I've been — people have accepted what I've been doing."

King George, on Larry King,
Quoted in the New York Times

The pResident boasted that he'd rather be right than popular: "When history looks back, I'd rather be judged as solving problems and being correct, rather than being popular."

George and his sidekick, Laura "I feel exactly like George does" Bush, spent a lot of words denying the importance of the widespread condemnation of Bush foreign and domestic policy.

So the polls find that most Americans, and most inhabitants of the planet, believe Bush is failing on all fronts. So what? Polls don't matter. Who cares what the American people, or the citizens of the world, think?

Yet, as journalist, Alessandra Stanley observes, it's pathetically obvious that King George appeared on Larry King Live in a blatant effort to improve his poll numbers.
