GOP Corruption Watch: Gonzales Lawyers Up

Torture Czar Alberto Gonzales has joined the large club of Republicans in need of criminal-defense lawyers. Naturally, Gonzales hired one of the many GOP lawyers who worked on the infamous 2000 project of getting Bush selected into the White House. I wonder how many of those lawyers have since been handsomely rewarded, I mean other than Chief Justice John Roberts.

But back to Alberto Gonzales -- among other things, the former attorney general is now under investigation for the mass firings of U.S. attorneys, telling lies to Congress, that strange late-night visit to John Ashcroft's hospital room, and giving the Gonzales seal of approval to torture. You can't find jobs like this anywhere other than with the GOP!

Newsweek has the story:

“No sooner did Alberto Gonzales resign as attorney general last month than he retained a high-powered Washington criminal-defense lawyer to represent him in continuing inquiries by Congress and the Justice Department…. The top concern for Gonzales, and now [George] Terwilliger, is the expanding investigation by Glenn Fine, the Justice Department’s fiercely independent inspector general, according to three legal sources familiar with the matter who declined to speak publicly about ongoing investigations.”
