Plamegate: What Does Bush Know?

The New York Times is asking the question today, and it's about time.

Mr. Bush was not mentioned in the indictment. But the fact that so many of his aides seem to have been involved in dealing with the issue that eventually led to the leak . . . leaves open the question of what the president knew.

The White House has also kept a tight lid on information about what Mr. Bush learned afterward about any involvement that Mr. Cheney, Mr. Libby, Mr. Rove and others may have had in the leak.

But Bushie is taking the 5th.

He ain't talking, and we can't make him. Cause the Cheney Monster told Bushie that he should talk only to his base.

Behind the scenes, Cheney is feeding Bush's instinct never to give ground when under attack, White House advisers say, despite rising concern among Republicans that the president doesn't realize the depth of his political trouble.

Friends say he has decided that he will never catch a break from the Democrats or the media--on the CIA case or anything else--so he will govern from the right, as he did on most issues in his first term.

Yeah, like there was ever a moment when Bush was governing from the middle. But the Bush/Cheney bubble is going to be the death of its inhabits. They may not 'get' the extent of their troubles, but plenty of other Republicans do and are bracing for losses at the polls. Bush's tightlips domestic policy is not going to help the Republicans who do face another election.

Bushie is hoping this latest category 5 storm will just go away. So he's running away from the White House for a while. He's heading for Asia, and that's just what they need. The tsunami wasn't bad enough, now they have to go into lockdown mode, spend god knows how many millions on security, and maybe even break out the riot police. When our radioactive leader returns, he'll head down to the ranch for a little Thanksgiving break.

Cindy Sheehan is having Thanksgiving in Crawford too. Some pResidents just can't get a break.
